I got to working on my 2240 stubby build today, I did it the hard way and shortened the breach end of a 2240 XL barrel, So that added some extra machining to get the probe seal and barrel port aligned. I gave it the ice maker transfer port, need to locate a thin 1/2 20 fitting for the thread protector, ATM I have a black plastic tube over the threads. Still looking into sighting options, may be intretwined with the thread protector , but I am able to consistently hit 2" spinners at 7 yards. Oh and it really likes H&N .218 21 gr. slugs. Will do some crony strings with it tomorrow and report back. . . also get into the trigger, that is not too bad on this example
James, what was your reason for using that end of the barrel?
I wanted to keep the pressed on threaded adapter Also gave me the option to get a precise fit for the probe oring, the bolt locks down and does not jump.
This might be in another topic but can you talk about the process of working on the breech end of the barrel?
I found my stash of fancy Magnum Air breach screws and added one to the build, still searching for the perfect sights for this, I do have a few options that will work but not what I want. Shot some slugs over the crony, a solid 350+ FPS May look into a flow through bolt 21 gr. H& N .218 gr. lugs also are perhaps a smidge undersized but shoot well. I Compared crony to crosman domed and got 400+ FPS with those.
I love these builds. I might have to do another! Is that the OEM XL muzzle brake?

I mounted the barrel in a vise in a drill press and bored it out with a 1/4" drill bit, to a depth of approx 1/4" depth may vary, to exact fit to breach, I Put the barrel in the breach to center punch a mark, then drilled the tp hole I go small first incase it gets off center if if so ther eis wiggle room when going the next size up to make adjustment. I used aggressive rubber grinding bits on the Dremel to make a new lead and smooth out tool marks. I followed with finer grits and then also did a pull through polish with fine compound to finish.
