Put a .25 cal barrel on a late model R1/HW80

When using the .25 GTO you mentioned it feeling slammy, but did you also hear an increase in noise compared to the .25 FTT?

Both the .25 GTO and the .25 FTT  should have the same muzzle report due to the air pressure at the muzzle being the same because they both share the same barrel volume. However, if the .25 GTO is indeed causing piston slamming there should be an extra noise (from piston hitting metal around transfer port) associated with that? Did you notice that extra noise?

I spent time shooting the R1 .25K off the bench focusing on the shot cycle, and the GTO are definitely louder but not  "slammy" like my first impression I got shooting them over the chrony. Other than the shriller muzzleblast, the shot cycle felt similar to lead pellets, but the shrill noise gives the impression of harshness. I also tested FTT, Benji Domes, and JSB pellets, and the GTO were the most accurate. It's a shame they're so dang expensive (and loud.)

Like Dan above described, muzzle report definitely varies between pellets shot from the same gun. I see, or more like hear, it happening all the time, with a wide range of springers in all four calibers. And this isn't because of piston slam.

For instance, non-lead pellets usually seal really well and shoot with high KE, but they still change and increase the muzzle report over various lead pellets, all of this happening at well below the speed of sound. Within lead, FTT's often shoot with a harder, higher, harsher report than Exacts, even the Expresses which are close in weight to the FTTs.

I ordered a .25cal barrel and cocking shoe from airgun spares.  I installed the barrel on my old R1 and it's shooting FTTs at 615fps with a nice shot cycle.  I really like it.  I hits with authority.
I didn't use the cocking shoe as it had a casting flaw and didn't fit anyway so that was a waste of $$

The cocking shoe you got might be for the 26mm HW95 family. Chambers has a single part number for the "new style" cocking shoes for both the 26mm and 30mm tube guns. They sent me the wrong one. It was a 30mm shoe so it seemed to fit my 26mm R9. It nearly destroyed the compression tube.

The 26mm shoe is obviously wrong when you try to install it on a 30mm gun. Consider yourself lucky it was easily regognized as wrong.

BTW even with the correct one you have to round the heel on the cocking foot to use it.
