What kind of accuracy is fair to expect from an MROD?

So I was finally able to do some shooting on Sunday with the new Marauder. I tested 4 different pellets
CPHP (14.3)
Beeman Crow Magnum (18.21)
H&N Baracuda (21.14)
Predator Polymags (16)

The funny thing is the POI at 20yds for all 4 of the pellets was almost exactly the same. I did not need to adjust the scope at all to keep them right around the bullseye.

The best shooters in my gun are the Baracuda's
I was testing both group size as well as shot count so I was shooting 30 of eacch pellet in 5 shot groups
all groups were shot from a bipod rest from 20 yards. Starting pressure was 2800 and I could get 3 full clips and finish ~2000.

My question is this, Are these groups good for this gun? Or at least acceptable? Should I continue to try different pellets to see if I can find the true 1-holer with this gun? Should it be more accurate than this at 20 yards? I have heard about copper pellets working well, or pointed crossman's, the list goes on and on. I have JSB exact heavys to test as well but the PO told me that they did not shoot that well in this gun. With the pellets I have tested I think I have a good mix of hunting pellets and plinkers (CPHP's) and they all produce 3/4 inch groups or less at 20 yards.

When I finished my pellet testing for the day I set a redbull can (with only the bottom facing me) out at 50 yards and and hit it 5 times in a row with the Baracuda's and an additional 2 times with polymags. It was a 2 mildot holdover. That is about the size of a squirrels melon.

I would be happy with that .....its still new as well....did you remove the second spring from trigger group???  Its an 18 cents mod and will improve groups

If you like a light trigger you have to try this. Remove the heavy .046 wire hairclip spring and replace it with two #4 screw nylon washers.

I measured the original spacer from the rear pivot measured ID .125 OD .251 Hgt .122. Two of the above washers measure .126 high OD almost exact and ID alil tight on pin. I used a new 1/8 drill as a reamer to size the ID till it felt like that factory spacers fit on the pin. I then sanded down with 220 grit the side of the washers with the molding marks till it matched the Hgt of .122. passes the hit on rear etc with out tripping I DID NOT touch any of the other sear or travel adjustments. .

You will need good quality Allen wrench for trigger assembly side cover as its 1/16th a Craftsmen one worked for me and fight tightly in heads. 1/8 drill bit and a piece of 220 or finer sandpaper. Make sure ya wash off the washers after sanding them.

geesh I don't know why I never tried this on the 22 cal Mrod.

Thanks for the advise. This is the layer spring mod, correct? I have been thinking about doing it but hte trigger seems so ice on it already. I actually bought the gun used so I would think it is broken in. I haven't got chrony yet either so I can't be sure how fast it is shooting. That is really the last thing I am concerned about and I think ot is ready to do some hunting with. The metering screw is currently 2.6 turns out from fully seated. I may try moving this to 3turns and see what affect it has on accuracy. If it is still is just as accurate maybe there really is no need for the chrony and I can just assume that it is accurate enough and should be shooting fast enough to kill anything I am going to shoot with it,

  without a chrony I would leave the adjustments alone ....as you will not have a way to check the flatness of the shot curve

One of the things to look forward to is that MRod barrels tend to shoot better with time/use.  Its working well now, but likely to shoot better. Shoot it, clean the barrel, shoot more, clean, etc.

Would also shoot it as a single shot...just to see.  Shoots well as it is, but would be good to know if the mag is damaging the occasional pellet skirt and giving you that occasionaly pellet landing a little out from his buddies.

First rty five shot groups load one at a time (thinking you used the clip here?). Remember to lube that o-ring just inside the barrel.

I am using the clip on these groups. What do I lube the o-ring with? I have never heard of doing this. Is it just inside the breech.

if you were zoered at 20 yards and shooting 10x(true mil-dot for most scopes) and 2 mill low at 50 yards you may be shooting 750fps w/21g if at say 20x your speed is closer to 900fps.

I had my scope at 20x in both cases. I never though of using that to empirically determine the fps. At least ball park it. I am assuming that you are using something like chairgun to determine this, correct?

Those groups are fantastic.  Wipe the rifle down and put it gingerly away in the gun safe until you're ready to hunt.... I wouldn't change a thing or "tinker" with it any further.  Trust me, that gun is most definitely shooting accurately enough !!

Thanks for the votes of confidence. This is what I am struggling with. From a hunting standpoint I think it is plenty accurate even at 50 yards (which it would probably be unlikely to have a shot even that long). But the shooter in me wants to know how good it should be and/or how good I can get it. As you two are saying, I should probably just leave it alone and assume that it is shooting fast enough and is accurate enough be happy with it but then what would I do with my Sunday mornings

The original first 100 had a spacer that the two nylon washers copy.  The nylon washers are smoother.

Your right Tom, I looked at mine(#31 off the line) an it has a spacer in place, I would say my trigger is alot smoother than my bud Gary's "new" Mrod's trigger, good info to know Thank's (I alway's just thought mine was worn in more).

20 yards under a dime..redbull can at 50 yrds 5 out of 5...good enough for goverment work.

Think your group measure is a bit generous.

In comparison to the dime (which is a known size) can figure how large the group center-to-center is.  Looks like those 6 groups range from about .6 to .3.

I am not sure I understand? Did I indicate what they measured?
