John Thomas tuned ( Vortek PG3) results for Diana 36

I have had a Diana 36 ( West Germany 1988) for many years. It was willed to me by my Great Uncle Bud. I have way too many airguns and I just didn’t shoot it much because it is an heirloom. It had a Tasco 4x scope but set up well with stout rings and stop pins. It was alway pretty accurate but the scope was a limiting factor at longer range. Well, I decided to give it a upgrade. I sent it to John Thomas and he did wonders with the trigger. 2lbs 1oz and predictable. The original was 4lb 12oz and crude. I have several Rekords and TO6 guns as well as air arms triggers so I am a bit spoiled. The Vortek PG3 kit made a world of difference in the shot cycle. It THWACKS instead of the buzz and twang. It is averaging 860 FPS with HNFTT 8.64 grain and gives std deviation of just 2fps and ext. spread of 5.99 FPS. ( it was 13.12) It is running very well at 14flbs. There was only about 10 FPS increase in velocity but I wasn’t looking to make more power. I mounted a Hawke Airmax 4 to 12 and BKL one piece( bit of shaving the mount to accommodate the belly of the turret portion)I can just get a business card through the gap now. This put the bell of the scope just 3mm or so above barrel which bodes well on the Diana and the infamous droop. After settling the gun in with 100 or so shots, I settled on the HN Baracuda FT 9.57 grain as the most accurate pellet. ( all were pretty good) This one just shines. Dime size spinners are routine at 50 yards, it just doesn’t miss anything out to 60 yards.
Hitting  sidewalk chalk discs at 60 is gratifying with a rifle from 1988. My Great Uncle Bud would be proud. He and my Grandfather were airguns enthusiasts in the 70s and 80s, fought in a world war together, hunted and fished together and even married each other’s sisters. They were really like brothers and they had a passion for shooting. They lit my fuse as a youngster in my Paps basement shooting crossman pistols and then I got my first real breakbarrel, a model 34, then Uncle Bud passed and he willed me this 36. I am 52 now and have around 25 Airguns. TX, HW’s Diana 350, 45,48 , Hatsans, Beemans etc.... NONE are more special than the two guns I got from these great men. John Thomas has tuned many guns for me but I can’t thank him enough for his part in this one. They have to be grinning ear at ear that i am perpetuating the same passion they instilled. They weren’t just men, and these aren’t just airguns. Thanks for reading.
