I have two. The MP40 is currently with grandson#3 in SE Illinois,I have the Thompson at my house. They fill a niche when you want to blast something. You do go through CO2 like crazy tho.

I would like to try the Barra electric full auto BB gun. Most of the FA bb guns are CO2, and I have no interest in that.

Many can be converted to HPA, there's all kinds of adapters out there.  They are a LOT of fun but they also go thru a LOT of CO2 cartridges so I will be bottle feeding my Crosman SBR, and maybe my sons' too if it works out well.

It's a funny niche in the market that becomes more relevant with an increased offer of reactive and moving targets...

I use mine for walking out on the range to reset targets. That and my trusty side arm, I can take out any ninja cans and or stealth targets we missed at distance!
As practical as any toy, but it's the set up that didn't exist when I was young enough to dream about them. Because let's face it..... We all are setting up the guns we wanted when we would walk the railroad tracks at 10 plinking anything in sight! Now we have the credit cards to make them reality!!!! Never grow up;-)

What gun guy wouldn't want a sub machine gun? My M3 and Uzi co2 bb smg's are a lot cheaper and easier to shoot.

OK, I know this is an OLD Thread, stumbled on it by accident, but I have got to chime in after reading a couple posts about FA BB Guns and some talk about whether Suppressors (silencers) work.

I'm going to preface this by stating I'm a Gunsmith (real steel and Airsoft customs, like expensive ones), and a Spl Ops Vet in the USAF from a rather long time ago. Anyway, I shoot real steel competition, you name it, but my love is Run n Gun and Speed Match. We have a team, actually several, all vets from young to more than capable "older", Marines, USAF, Army (we tolerate them) and Navy (we let them "clean up", mops). Shooting has gotten expensive (Ammo) and we were looking for cheap ways to "Practice" mostly Run n Gun and Speed Matches.  I stumbled onto the KWC (Taiwan) made Crosman CO2 "M4 FA/Semi-auto" BB rifles. Some are very "realistic", not as much as Airsoft M4 are, but the weight was right, operation same, they are blow back and most importantly they hit targets HARD. Most Run n Gun competition uses STEEL Targets and you have to hear the hit "RING OUT" loud or no points, and while ranges are 25 yards to 100 yards, we are able to scale back the 100 yards to 25 with shrunken targets.  The Crosman "KWC" M4's have no problem to hit targets VERY accurately to 35 yards and still HARD. We also use CO2 Semi-auto PELLET 1911's and usually one of the SIG Sauer models that are insanely accurate to PLUS 25 yards.

My choices are the KWC Crosman R1 SA/FA M4 with a 16" barrel, and the Crosman CQB "Bushmaster" with a 10" barrel. My pistol choice is the SIG Sauer P226 SEALS version. I tweak everyone's Crosman M4's to get 550fps with copper BB's and the SIG Sauers stock do 450fps with a domed .177 Pellet.

We also have four teams (Squad size) for MilSim Airsoft Matches. That's another story.

Now the subject of Suppressors on CO2 BB FA/SA rifles.  THEY WORK if they are made right.  As I said I'm a licensed FFL Gunsmith and I make custom Suppressors for real steel weapons, yes you have to buy a Federal Tax Stamp to buy and own one.

I also make Suppressors for Airsoft guns .... and BB Guns. They aren't just some "foam" shoved inside a tube, they are essentially the same design internally as ones for a real steel suppressor.  The difference is the material isn't steel, it's a sound absorbent semi-hard material shaped the same in numerous disks in the "tube". One of these on either of my KWC Crosman CO2 M4's and you only hear the "CLACK CLACK of the Bolt in Blow Back, there is now muzzle sound.  As you know, CO2 guns are a LOUD. 

But you can make a silencer / Suppressor with easy to work with with "closed cell foam" too and almost get noiseless shooting.  The KEY is the Density of the Foam! The HIGHER the frequency of the firing "Crack", the lower the density of foam is needed, the LOWER the frequency, the more dense the foam. That's the only hint you get.
