Tuxing TXEDM042 - is this normal?
«

I got a Tuxing TXEDM042 recently and out of the box found it was leaking around the dual filter area even after tightening all the screws & bolts post shipping. I added new O-Rings which took care of the air leaks but noticed it only topped off my CF tank only to just below 4000psi. Anything more than that would cause the compressor to struggle. It would go from the normal brrrrr sound these compressors make to a clumping noise at which I quickly shut it off.
My question is, is this normal for these types of compressors? I see vids of the Yong Heng topping off tanks to 4300-4500psi on youtube so figured this Tuxing should at least be close.
Anyway, I already got a return authorization and thought I'd try and ask you guys about if there's a fix before shipping it back. I really was hoping it would work as advertised.

Ray,
I have the TXEDT032 and noticed that the first time I used it, it was slow and labored. I took the INPUT AIR hose off of the filter and POW! not one issue after that. Mine was just having a hard time sucking air through that filter.
I don't think yours has that input filter, only the bronze filter at the top of the primary (Low pressure) input cylinder.
Maybe try to remove that and make sure it is free from oils or anything that might clog it.
OH! I also made sure I was running the compressor on a 117VAC 20 Amp Circuit because when I ran it on a 15 amp circuit in my shop, it would labor and become bogged like you are describing! then it would only fill to about 3800.
so that might be the issue...
just letting you know how mine went...since then it has been flawless.
I will be interested to see how you make out.

That and don't run it on an extension cord or a loose outlet.

There may be more leak detecting possibly also but saying it is laboring may be the electric circuit, they all compressors begin to labor when hitting the 4000 psi zone to some extent.

Thank you
Will
! Correct, the TXEDM042 only has that thimble shaped air-input filter. I'll have to take it off and check it out. I had no idea that these are so sensitive to voltage and amperage. I believe Tuxing has specs the 42 @ 110 volts but haven't seen them spec how many amps. I believe my garage is at 115 volts @ 15amps. I'm not much of an electrician and will definitely need to look into that. All in all, I'm just glad to hear that yours is doing its job as it should, which tells me there's still hope to get this one up and running well & that they're not garbage. 👍
Just yesterday, while continuing testing I noticed there's also a leak on the small u-shaped metal tube that connects the two filters at the top. So, thank you
Mr. Seller
for the head's up. I believe you're right. I opened it up and saw the connection is metal on metal. No bushings or rings etc. Is that normal you think?
Seems like there kind of needs to be some sort of bushing/ring/rubber type material to keep that metal on metal from leaking. I don't know.
And
Chuck
, thanks! I do have it connected to a 25' extension cable. I'll move it close to the actual outlet and try it without the extension. Man... seems these Tuxing are very touchy in the electrical department but it does make sense why that would be so.
Much appreciate all this input guys!! 🙏
&
Will
, I'll 100% keep you guys posted on how it goes.

You could use a 12/3 25ft extension cord ( 12/3 may be thicker wire than your outlet feed wire )

That would definitely be nice so I don't have to rearrange that side of the garage.

The fittings they use are compression fittings, similar to what is used on a cars hydraulic brake lines, designed to form a seal when snugged, careful not to over tighten as their ability to reseal after a few reassemblies may be lessened.
One could use a wrap of teflon plumbers tape to hep lubricate and seal those fittings, but not necessary.

Since the title of this thread fits, I just had a slight mishap on mine. I was topping off my 4500 psi 2L bottle and just as it reached shut off pressure, there was a pop and whoosh. the blowoff valve had vibrated all the way out and shot a short safe distance, I have the compressor facing a safe direction for the parts that have been known to come apart. Seems they had 2 washer orings on this item and they did not snug up as tight as one, and worked their way out, amazing it was building pressure up to the blow out
I replaced the oring seal with a spare I had and no more leaks, but I recommend frequent checks of the system, this may have been finger loose when I started the fill.
