I was in the Gun shop this morning and had a look at a Gamo Varmint $349.00 NZ with a Gamo scope. Not really interested but I noticed that the steel barrel inside the plastic coating did not have crown; just a squared off hole and the last 3 or 4 mms of barrel had no rifling. Obviously intentionally done. Maybe a production expediency. Maybe it works well, maybe not Maybe corner cutting. I just found it a glaring issue . The salesman I asked had no answer .Obviously they have little knowledge or care in what they sell .
It makes me think that some retailers buy production faulty guns at a cheap price and just flick them on for a quick dollar.

Novagun,
The 4 Gamo that i have all have that same type of crown. No problems, i get good accuracy with them. It seems like a protected crown that tapers. Does good for me. Not faulty, just how they get their crowns done. Appears consistent in all 4 barrels.

After shortening a barrel, I finish them all square, with just a minimal debur with a stone. Not sure about that 3-4mm with no rifling. If it didn't get rifled, if must open up a wee bit at the very end.

Yes it does open up a bit. You can drop a pellet in and it will fall back out. That is what makes me think it is detrimental .

I can't swear on it, because I gave it away. But I'm pretty sure the barrel on new Hatsan Alpha was the same way. It shot great.
The one I shortened, removing the muzzle choke, also shoots great.
Not sure how the Gamo Varmint is put together. On the Hatsan, the barrel was under tension with a nut and washer inside the polymer shroud. There must have been an inch of barrel beyond the threads for the nut. Easy enough to cut the end down and recrown, if you have a strong preference or wanted to compare groups before and after.
