Have you tried a Hatsan .177 with slugs? I'm still on the fence about swapping barrels.

sorry it did slip my mind Because I have not checked for sure yet...But I do believe the Chief II plus, Crosman Icon and Barra 1100z should all be capable of very near 30 fpe with the wick turned up... in fact it does seen that at received it is tuned to mild causing a very large es with 10.5 cpum... here is my Icon .177 box stock settings... 10.5 CPUMstarts at 853 fps at 3000 psi 925 fps at 2700 psi or so... bout 12 shots inby shot 28 it peaks at 974 fps/22+ fpe shot 36 is at about 2000 psi and is around 940 fps shot 48 is down to about 1500 psi and the CPUM 10.5 is going at 880 fps...put that string with the peak at 2200 or so psi together with the Hammer bounce sound many hear from these sibs and it's a good indication hammer spring is set to soft... so...running light 7g-10g pellets for a nice long/quiet string in these will need porting that has been restricted and more hammer spring...I Bought a decent supply of Beast 16g... so ran a string because they are nice and accurate at the 40 yards I tested at...once again as received...16.2 BeastStart of string 2700 psi got 771 fps...then a 761 fps shot then 765,784,774,778,771...now down at about 2500psi 800,790,810,807,800,814, peaking with one 824 fps shot at about 2250-2300 psi then 807,817,817,810,814,817,then peaking again at 2000 psi 833,826,830,820, 823,810,820at about 1800 psi now 823,810,820,817,810 ending about 30 shots down to 1650-1700 psi (hammer bounce causing velocity swings I think)so today had to find the other extreme...turned adjuster in till would not cock... then back out till it would... then about another 3/4 of a turn out...flat of Allen screw is .545" in from back of rear cap...got just about what I expected... a falling string... 16.2 Beast2800 psi... 922,906,9032600 psi... 899,896,8922400 psi... 883,875,86430.5 fpe falling to 26.8 fpe... should get a bit more on a full fill and tunning down some... this string 4% es is about 885 fps... so lets call it 7 shots.. now some 10.5 cpum...2900 psi... 1020,1043,E2700 psi... 1014,E,1011,9972400 psi... 980,E,9672200 psi... 968,961,9682000 psi.. 961,961,953 so that is the two extremes... Happy medium is probably around 28 fpe or so with the 16.2g Beast and 21 fpe or so with the 10.5g cpum...

Time to drag out my Lelya 2.0 .177 got the reg set 125b backed off the hammer spring as far as I can. Slinging edgun 10.3 pellets 1000/950 fps. Have zan 13g slugs coming. Needs a work out.
Mike please post your results with the ZANs, I was goin to order some in .177 to try out as well. Ill order another weight and if your still in SA I can give you some to try.
Eddie,The bullshark will get you to at least 25 fpe. My P35-177 is at 19 with the regulator set at 100 bar. Increasing that to 125 bar should get you to about where you want to be. I've never tried slugs in it but my P35-22 and P35-25 both shoot relatively heavy H&N slugs about as well as they shoot their favorite pellet - well. My worst shooter of the 3 is the 25 which regularly will shoot 1/4 inch groups at 25 yards. The 22 has twice put three through exactly the same hole at 25. The 177 is between the other two in accuracy. I get about 100 shots from my P35-177. You'll still be north of 50 with the regulator turned up a bit. The five squirrels I've taken with my P35-177 so far have not shown signs of needing more fpe or expansion. A couple hung on for a few seconds but all died quickly. I was just using 10.65 grain H&N pellets. In at least 2 the pellet did not exit but went through the skull and a lot of the body. I would be a bit leery of using expanding projectiles in it for squirrel, I don't think there is a ton of penetration margin. For birds or other smaller pests expanding projectiles should help with over penetration but you don't really need the expansion to take smaller pests cleanly. Maybe if you turn up the velocity to get 25 or 30 fpe you will have enough penetration for good penetration with some expansion. I do think squirrels hit with my 22s and 25s tend to die a little quicker than my 177. So as long as the expansion doesn't make the penetration insufficient your high power 177 may be very effective with an expanding slug. I like to see around 800 pages of wet magazine penetration. That cross correlates to through penetration of a squirrel on a broadside shot (I've tested penetration in dead squirrels twice now). Jim
The Bullshark is going to be my chipmunk gun.
Quote from: EdinGa on January 15, 2023, 04:03:04 AMThe Bullshark is going to be my chipmunk gun.Dang. My gun of choice for chipmunks (at least when they are close to the house, so up to about 20 yards or so) is a .177 HW-30S, and at about 7 FPE it never fails to drop them DRT . . .
Sure an avenger would push 10 and a half grain 1000 with no problem.
