New Sumatra .22 Carbine...leaks

I finally convinced my uncle to go over to the dark side with me, and he purchased a Sumatra 2500 Carbine .22 and a benji pump and a fill adapter. After two weeks of having it in hand and no report of shots fired, I had to ask what was the deal...He said he got it to pumped up to about 2000 psi, but it just leaks out of the barrel. He tried cycling through and dry firing a few times and nothing changed.
Is this a common problem for this rifle? Is there an easy fix? He purchased it at PA and I know they have a good return policy. He gave me the rifle to figure it out...help please.

Did you cock the gun before trying to fill? Spring loaded striker resting on the valve stem can keep the valve open no matter how you try to fill.
Second hint it to listen to the leak. If it leaks slower and slower as the pressure builds up, there is a chance that by 2500psi or so, it will stop leaking. If it does, then store it that way for at least a day. If the pressure is still where you left it, then go ahead and fill to max and shoot.
Why? the delrin valve seal may not be a perfect fit to the valve body when new...once enough pressure builds up to force it to a fit, it can stop leaking. Leaving it filled over night helps the delrin form fit to that sealing shape.
If that didn't work, then send it back...you didn't change or hurt the gun by trying.

The leak gets louder with more pressure. It leaks regardless of it being cocked or not.

Was worth a try and didn't hurt anything. AIrguns, computers, or potato peelers...every so often, one doesn't work right out the box. Call and send it back for exchange.

After pumping it up in the cocked position, and firing it, the leak gets worse...
