I really like the low mount. I always strive to get my scopes as close to the bore as possible. Nice work!

It is called a scout mounting. It was popularized by Col. Jeff Cooper and his concept scout rifle. There are (scout) scopes intended specifically for the purpose but for my 392 I just used an intermediate eye relief pistol scope. And unlike breech mounted scopes on the 392, it does not interfere with pumping or over stress the barrel brazing.

Another example, my Marlin 1895SBL with a Burris 2.75X Scout Scope and Warne QR rings for quick reversion to the open sights:

Air Venturi intermount coupled with a compact scope. (Sorry, photo won't load and I don't have the patience to deal with it right now). I never liked having to grip and put force on a scope in order to pump the rifle, and this arrangement solves that problem. NC Star makes a nice compact 9x32 scope that fits well.

but could work with a scope with an offset mount....



Drilled and tapped some holes in the receiver for the Picatinny rail.... it could be 2 slots longer if needed....

Curious as to how you pump it with a scope on it. I contemplate scoping mine but it seems it would make pumping cumbersome

Before having one, I used to wonder how do you pump it, then I put a Baker mount on and use the scope as a handle.

( Older Sheridan's only have open or peep sights )
