Hi Will.

I see that no current Benjamin NPXL owners have responded to your post.
I'll try to help out if I can sir.

To the best of my knowledge the Benjamin Trail NPXL series has it own unique gas ram.
I used to own both a .117 cal. Crosman Vantage and a .22cal.  Benjamin Trail NPXL 1100.
I installed the Vantage in a Titan thumb hole stock and it looked like a smaller version of the larger and heaver Benjamin NPXL.
The force required to cock the Vantage was around 35 lbs.
The cocking force for the Benjamin Trail was around 50 lbs.
The Benjamin NPXL weighed around 11.5 lbs with a scope on it.
A lot of folks who bought a Benjamin NPXL had accuracy issues and sold theirs.
For me to be accurate with the Benjamin Trail that I owned required me to really concentrate on hold, follow thru and trigger squeeze.
I sold mine because it had a really nice wood stock and I did not want to ruin it out hunting.
I also had 2 Hatsan 125's one in .22 cal. and one in .25 cal.
The Hatsans had plastic stocks and the Benjamin did not.
I had 19 rifles at that time and needed to thin them down.
It did not make sense to me to own 3 big heavy super cannon springers.
I sold both the Benjamin Trail NPXL and the Vantage.
I really liked all the guns that I sold but I paired everything down to what I thought I would actually use the most.

Most people did not like the trigger on the Benjamin Trail NPXL
I bought mine used in the GTA Classifieds and it came with a GRT III trigger installed.
The guy that I bought mine from broke 4 scopes on this rifle.
I put a Diana Bullseye ZR scope mount on it and did not have any scope problems.

Power wise the Benjamin Trail NPXL hangs in there with the Hatsan 125.

I owned the Benjamin for around 3 years and did not have any problems with it.
Sometimes I think I should have kept the Benjamin but other times I think I made the right decision. 
The one I had was made around 2012.

Thank you so much, I will tell my buddy what you said. There come a point at which a barrel cocker is to much and the trail may be it.

I can tell you I have some Hatsen gas ram guns and they are pretty powerful, and I like them. I have a 135 and it is a heavy son of a gun and have only shot it a little
