Is silicone ok on Benjamin o-Rings?

Seems like every time I remove the valve from a 392 or 397 I find a small gouge in an o-ring. I have gently gone over the edges in the brass tube with a small jeweler's file and everything I can feel feels smooth. Is it ok to use some silicone on the o-rings to help them slide into the tube a little easier and past the openings? Or would that cause a problem with the regular oil and lubrication?

I de-burr first thing on all when I first open them up.

I use silicon grease to lube the o-rings - no need to spare on the amount - it does not hurt anything

I use the silicone from Home Depot plumbers section..
