You know what you are looking at; but the seal in question was not from a HW80.  Look at your own words, quoted above:

It's a theoben design. Not a theoben part. Like I said give me some credit.

I agree with you that the seal was eroded by hot air.  The fact that it rotated slightly, then a second erosion pattern started proves that the steel endcap has air channels in it, as you stated.   Thank you for digging that up.




As for my assumption that a Theoben licensed design might use a Theoben designed part.  Entirely reasonable assumption.  Even if an incorrect assumption - as you have proven beyond doubt.
