NP XL 1100 accuracy

I've shot this on an off the last couple weeks here and there. I haven't really sat down and tried to get it to group at different distances untill tonight.  I was trying at 60 feet. to get it to stay with in 1" and was having troubles, it would be good ... then no good.  I'm guilty in that I never did any of the "new gun" check list things.  I had it shooting pretty good last night at 50 feet. Tonight I took it out and couldn't hit a thing untill I readjusted the scope.  So I checked the 3 screws on the stock and they were all 1/2 to full turn loose!!  So I tightened them all up and figured ok all is well.  I had to readjust the scope again but man it sure is hard to get it to shoot consistant.  

Does this aftermarket trigger you guys talk about really make that much differance??    Its quite fruserating its a nice gun good power but I wish It would shoot more consistant!!!  I've used a varity of pellets the Crosmans 14.3's and the JSB jumbo exact heavy 18.1 grain seem to work ok. I probably have a about 300-400 pellets through it so far.

A good initial barrel cleaning might help. In the tightening, did you try the pivot screw? Make sure the scope is tight. But it's VERY possible you have a bad scope. My XL1100 was dead on at 30 yards, popping paintballs. Then I took it out again and it was like a shotgun. Could not put a round within an 8" Shoot-N-C target. Come to find out my new scope was through.
I replaced it with an el cheapo Powerline 3-9X32 scope and my XL was back on dead bull at 30 yards. Where did you buy it? I would consider taking it back, see if they will exchange it or possibly just the scope. If not, Crosman has an excellent customer service department. They will help you out too, if needed.

I keep thinking its just me!  No I didnt' try the pivot screw yet.

But you could be right on the Scope, I want to try it some more yet.  I had a bad scope one time on my Ruger 10/22 and couldn't get that darn thing to shoot right. I was constantly adjusting the scope. I all most sold the gun then one day I heard something loose in the Scope!!!! Put a new scope on it and it was dead accurate!

Well I ordered one of them gold triggers this morning so I'll see how that goes!!

shooting the XL1100, i have learned a few things... one, they moleste scopes.... 2, they are a @#$!@^ to cock, and 3, they can be quite difficult to get shooting right.  mine (well still daves technically until $$$$ is changed hands) will go from not liking cphp's, to 1 holes... is it me?  or is it the pellets, or the gun, or the hold, etc..... it seems to do more conistent with PREDS, so i hope that it tightens up.  i did just completely strip clean the barrel with goo gone, and i must have done something right, because groups shrunk down to about 1/2 - 3/4 of an inch at 20 yds... my typical shooting distance.  Dave tells me this gun has a few hundred rounds through it, and i put a few hundred rounds through it as well, so its starting to get broken in i just have to get more consistent with it i guess...

I am tack driving .22cal. 14.66 beeman copper coated domes at exactly 32 yrds with my 1100 from the kitchen table off a rice filled caldwell front shooting rest with the scope it came with. This(as with all magnum break barrels) is a very challenging rifle to shoot for accuracy. A magnum springer is recognized as one of the hardest rifles to shoot for accuracy. Even though the gas ram is not a spring and therefore the NPXL is'nt technically a springer, it does share all the same mechanics. The double kick and slower lock time, and how that effects muzzle shift is easily the main reason for inconsistancy of a shooters P.O.I. THIS RIFLE IS AS ACCURATE AS THE SHOOTER IS DISCIPLINED. If you don't know any of these terms, you should look them up......"Artillery hold",holding the crosshairs "naturally", "weld plate", "follow through", "lock time", "proper breathing" "muzzle shift", "flyers" etc.. Bottom line is the NPXL needs a good disciplined shooter because it is very non foregiving. Remember inaccuracy is rarely the guns fault. Sure theres a bad scope or something every now and then, but accuracy is'nt hitting the bullseye, it's hitting it consistantly by removing as much shooter error as possible from each shot.

I didn't realize when I ordered it that the big Magnum springer guns were the harder guns too shoot!  I know now though and I am getting better at it. My old Gamo.177  Magnum Hunter is not as "touchy" to shoot.  Man you guys weren't kidding when you said it takes 500 shots to get the hang of these things! I'm not expecting to shoot flies at 40 yards all day !  But I would like to be farily consistant at 25-30 yards. I'll see when I get the new trigger if that helps some.

The new trigger will help.  One of the most import things to do is find the balance point for your front hand.  My Trail Np AW likes to be held just in front of the trigger guard.  If you are shooting off a rest, make sure you have your hand on the rest and the gun on your hand.  Many springers shoot poorly if put directly on the rest.  Also try different types of holds.  Mine does not like the classic artillery hold that most recommend for magnum springers.  It actually likes a soft standard rifle hold (fingers lightly wrapped up the sides of the stock at the balance point).

All in all, every gun is different even if they are the same model.  What works for one gun may not work for another gun even of the same model.

Just keep experimenting.
