marauder upgrade
« on: June 03, 2022, 10:28:37 PM »
Is there a simple upgrade i can do to get a little more power out of my .22 Marauder rifle that Hajimoto would recommend ? Not trying to get into the guts of the air rifle. Thanks

So talk to me about what you have tried already and help me understand what it is that you are trying to achieve.
I ask because the non field target version of Marauder is an unregulated PCP and it offers a fair amount of adjustability so I like to hear what bridges you've crossed to better help me understand your situation.

What fpe range are you wanting?  There are a lot of little mods and upgrades out there to get it shooting hotter.

I haven't tried a lot cause I don't own a chronograph and I'm very new to PCPs. The phone app ui found sais I'm shooting around 780 fps with 18.13 Barracuda 18s, stringing between 770 and 788 but Im not sure how accurate that is. I'm using it for medium size pesting up to raccoon size or to 60 yds or so. I was thinking about giving the transfer port 1 full turn out, leaving the Hammer at factory settings. I. Trying to get it to around 850-900 fps using 18.13 or up to 22 gr pellets. I'm very new to all of this and honestly haven't tried much. Don't want to screw my rifle up. Basically starting from the beginning. It is a very accurate rifle for the most part.
Hope no one thinks I'm a idiot. Lol

First I would try adding some hammer spring tension, if you are still not getting the speeds you want, open the transfer adjustment screw a little. Count and jot down your turns for reference.

Fill to 3000psi.
Open the VS to 4 turns CCW.
Replace blocking screw.
Turn HT (1/8”) full CCW.
Then turn HT (1/4”) full CW 6 turns.
That is the maximum power you will get from your rifle.
You will probably b wasting air as the hammer bumps up against the poppet after each shot.
You can add bStaley to correct that.
But those settings should get you real close to 900fps with 14.3.
If too much, you can reduce HT (1/8”) by turning CW or reducing HS (1/4”) by turning CW.
When you get close to the results you are after you can increase efficiency a bit by closing (CW) the VS a turn or two.

Following along. You need to get a chronograph so you know exactly what is happening with each adjustment. Record the results for later on if you need it. The b-staley mod is a pretty good one.

A chronograph is essential to know what you're adjustments are doing. How else will you know what direction you're headed? Here's a guide.  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1WFDife1EqVkkDQPEwRZFU6Kawki2sCi0x5KdFarO86U/edit?hl=en_US

I'd be interested to know what phone app works as a chronograph by itself.

It's called Chrono connect mobile.
I know a Chrono is vital, but I can't afford one right now. At least, not a Caldwell.
I would think you could tell speed wise by how and where you got at said distance but I get it chronograph is in the future.

I've been using this Chrono Connect app.
I put one turn in my Hammer spring and it read these numbers. Three different 10 shot strings. 2 we're around 2900 psi fill and last one was at around 2700 psi start. 2700 fill is the one that sais 802 on the picture. Not sure how close this is, but it's a start I guess.

Richard when you start a string the first number will be the lowest.
The pressure in the air tube is stronger than the hammer strike so the poppet closes fast cutting off the air.
As the pressure in the air tube lessens the poppet does not close as fast so more air is used and the speed slowly rises.
Then as the air continues to be used the speed will lower again.
(A bell curve)
You are looking to make that curve as flat as possible.
You want to keep track, as much as possible, of the air pressure on your gauge at each shot.
Record the pressure with each shot.
Then you will know at what pressure you want to fill the rifle so that you begin at your chosen speed.

Do a search on Google for “A” Team Marauder tuning.
