New tool for the tool box

I have several single chock rifles . And there are times I want to inspect a barrel and do not want to empty the air out of the rifle to be able to inspect it . So I made this holder to restrain the bolt from moving out of a hanger .Marvin

Cool Idea....looks like coat hanger wire. My only suggestion would be to grind the ends smooth, and plastic dip the whole thing. Thanks for sharing.

Bad idea.

Looking down the barrel of a charged airgun is an unsafe practice not to be recommended. If enough people do this, someone will end-up with their eyeball in the back of their head.

These aren't firearms.  If the rifle is charged, it is loaded.  NEVER look down the barrel of a loaded gun.

Same reason I would never buy one of the PCP's with the gage in the tip of the fore-stock. Just doesn't seem a good idea. JMHO.

Were it will get used the most . Is at the gun range . When the range master calls a cease fire and demands all chambers be open or go home . Before anyone can go down range . And there will be no discussion made about the subject .Marvin

And I wash my hands before dinner......what does that have to do with looking down the barrel of a loaded gun?  About as much as location does.

Gun range.....living room.....garage....location makes no difference.  Charged airguns are loaded. Never look down the barrel of a loaded gun......it is a STUPID yes STUPID thing to do. There is no way around it.

Sorta like two plus two equals four no matter where the calculation is made. It's called a "universal truth".

Marvin, your suggested method of barrel inspection (not "this keeps the chamber open for the rangemaster"....nice try at switching reasons) is so blatantly unsafe you don't have a leg to stand on with this one, so there truly is no need for further discussion.

Here are two more tools I recently pick up that I did not mention here . The first is magnified 4X and will go 17 inches total . The second is not magnified but with the 36 inch reach , 45 degree mirror it is like cutting the barrel in half and looking at it . But it does take some getting use too . With the light you can keep the bolt closed as well . Marvin

It sets a bad precedence to call a charged airgun loaded. I will not argue that it is dangerous weather or not there is a pellet (bullet) in it especially right at the muzzle or breach. However, I do not want to have to discharge my rifle and then refill it every time I put it in my vehicle or have to cross a road while hunting. Many state game laws do not allow "loaded" guns in certain areas or while being transported in vehicles. If we the users call them loaded then the legislatures and enforcers will consider them so also.

^X2.... Even a CO2 gun with a cartridge in it or a cocked springer would fall under the same "description".... even though they had no pellet loaded....

I see your point as far as "potential legalities" are concerned.  Though my statements were in the spirit of safety, and were not in the context of creating a legal policy or definition.

Addressing your legal concerns: by law, is a starting gun loaded with blanks considered a loaded weapon?  There is propellant there (just like air), but no projectile (just like an airgun with no boolits in it).  Researching that question would be a good place to start to get a feel of whether or not your concern of a legal definition of loaded pertaining to airguns is warranted.

How about this.....looking down the barrel of a charged airgun is just as stupid as looking down the barrel of any loaded gun.  Both can blow up in your face.

Some things are questionable . And done on occasions but not as a general practices by some . Which seem foolish to some . I do know that there is a golden rule as well . That if you go out in the wilderness , or hunting . You should never go alone but always have a partner . But I see that there are a lot of hunters that take tools like cell phones and GPS equipment with them instead of a partner . But that my seem like a good substatute tool to them but to others it seems foolish. Marvin
