Yes, the condom method works good and somehow aligns the adapter naturally.

When using adapters, it's what I do; not relying solely on the set screw.

I remove the membrane, a drawback when using this recipe, that covers the bore with a heated needle.

I just killed a rat snake next door with my Crosman 1077. It was about 3.5 feet long.
If it had been up to me I'd have left it alone; BUT, my next door neighbor was having HYSTERICS since it was in her front yard.

She was SCREAMING and raving on the phone w/ the cops. She called 911 about a rat snake. LOL

So rather than have a SWAT team show up here ... or maybe the entire day watch...I saved them a trip.

This wasn't the first rat snake spotted around here. Other neighbors have reported them too on their front porches, etc.

What's interesting is this snake was trying to crawl up the outside of the drain of her apt. It's possible we have more rat snakes in the rain gutters & drains of our apt's.

I just finished talking with another neighbor after church. I told her the rat snake story from yesterday. This particular neighbor is a gossip. By tomorrow half the complex will have heard the story.

Probably see a yard crew here ... maybe, Tuesday. I'm going to pass the word to our maintenance person tomorrow and let her know the grass is tall enough for large snakes to migrate freely through it.

Things are back to normal. My 362 is sighted in at 25 yards at 5 pumps with Cpums. Accuracy is about the same or a little better than with the 21" barrel.

I'm really, really, hoping Crosman ships my .177 24" Disco barrel this week.

Oh, I know. Which is why I said I'd have left it alone had it been up to me. Actually, if I wiped out all the rat snakes in the neighborhood, that would have the eventual effect of a rise in the rat population and there would be plenty more to shoot. Next year.

I should have left it alone. Shrugged. Went back in my house. Closed my window to the hysterical screaming (some of which would have been directed at me for leaving, no doubt).

Made some popcorn, cracked open a beer and watched the day watch of our local PD come out to take care of a rat snake.

Too bad I don't have a camcorder. I could have made a vid of the whole circus and uploaded it to youtube.

One ecological difference I'm seeing already from the removal of the rat snake is the emergence of tree frogs. They've been crooning nightly since the day I removed said snake and just now even in the daytime.

Would the frogs be singing if the rat snake was alive to further reduce their population?
Maybe. Maybe not.

Tree frogs are omnivorous in nature. In the wild, they normally feed on a range of insects such as mosquitoes, crickets, locusts, slugs, ants, snails, and even small rodents! They are very adept at hunting, however, when kept as pets they do not need to do so. A pet tree frog can be fed crickets for the bulk of its diet.

Some might think the frogs are noisy. And, they are. Or, can be. It's an easy sound to get used to. It's easy to drift off to sleep listening to them.

I'm an animal science major, but still not a snakeologist, and I agree. To my knowledge snakes don't have functional ears at all and rely on vibrations carried by the ground, smell, and sight. I would also imagine the nocturnal frogs are safe from the diurnal snake.

We live in a very soggy back woods area of lower Alabama. The critters at night are dang near deafening. Especially after a rain. It's the perfect scenario to put a flash light on a SUPER UPGRADED Crosman 362 RIFLE and go frog hunting.
