Marauder vs Avenger/Flash/Gauntlet2?

Hi all, I'm looking to add another pcp rifle, this time something in .22 caliber. I really enjoy getting squirrels and plinking with the Benjamin Bulldog .357, but I'd like to get something that can get more shots in between fills, and still accurate out to 75-100 yards. 
The marauder is on the max end of my budget, and I really like what I've read about it. It seems though that all the rifles people compare the marauder too are nearly half the price (avenger, flash, Gauntlet2). Is the marauder worth those extra Benjamins? (pun intended).  Anyone have experience with some of those guns and can give your thoughts?

Also look into Kral, Kuzey, DAR.......lots of good guns out there, better then the ones you mentioned.

I looked at DAR yesterday. I liked what I saw, but everything was out of stock.

Keep an eye on the GTA classified adds. FYI, you may see something there and for a good deal.

I have a DAR GEN 2 in .22 and it is an absolute joy.  So much so that I wanted to buy one in .25, but like you said..  perpetually out of stock 😢

I ended up buying a refurbished 25 Avenger from Pyramid Air and have been completely satisfied with it, so much so that I'll buy another one in 22.

The Avenger isn't as accurate as my DAR, but it's comparing a .22 to a .25.  The DAR feels much better built as well. I like that the Avenger has alot of easy adjustability.  I also like that the Avenger doesn't require that I keep up with a fill probe for it as well.  I Don't see how you could go wrong with either one.

I am not an air rifle expert but I do have a Marauder .25 brand new and I also have a UX Gauntlet 2 in .25. And I have been shooting guns including various air guns my entire life which is getting rather long in tooth. Quality, hand down the Marauder. The Marauder came filled to 3,000 psi and had a five shot test target to prove the rifle was functional and accurate. And it is. The G2, well, the first two leaked badly. They were replaced and I finally have one I am okay with but it is not a quality gun.

The G2 is right at 50 fpe and the Marauder is putting out 42 fpe, both rifles out of the box, same JSB 25 grain pellets. I am not sure what some are picking on the Marauder, maybe that it has not been updated to a side lever or something but it has the same or nearly so power of $1500 guns, looks just as good if not better and it is accurate at least equal to the UX G2. And while it was not the sole deciding factor, the Marauder is USA built and when the G2 is dust in our memories the Marauder may still be around, hopefully a Gen III, and I hope Crosman will be too.

Between the two, Marauder all the way. The two are not in the same class at all. But, if you want to shoot all day, well, the G2 with the SCUBA tank on the end of it might satisfy you. It is heavy and some say the Marauder is heavy, well, try a G2 on for size, it is huge, heavy, ugly. But mine does shoot good.

I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 airguns. I know, an addiction. LOL
Out of those, 6 are MRods. I really like the quality of these, the ease of maintaining and the low cost replacement parts that are readily available. Mine are all .25cal and are tack drivers. I have ordered an Avenger and will check it out. But I will always go back to and reply on my Marauders to get the job done. Whether it's target shooting or pesting.
Whatever you decide to buy, enjoy it.

Well put Dave. I have shot the avenger bullpup and it seemed okay. I don't know about the flash. I do know a little about the mrod platform lol. There is a ton of knowledge out there on the marauder. If your a tinkerer it's an awesome platform. I do have to say that kral seems to be doing pretty good, maybe they offer a rifle in your price range. The new JTS look pretty good too. Good luck with whichever one you go with.

I will be on a JTS Standard like flies on stink, if and when they every actually come to be and they are anything like they have been talked up to. Yes, I want one.

And do not let me spoil you on the G2. Seriously, if shooting long shot counts between fills is important, the G2 is a regulated rifle with a huge tank. It is not a bad rifle. Well, at least the one I have now without the leaks is a good rifle. And it is a good rifle. Takes a winch to cock it. I have also heard complaints the Marauder is hard to cock, hardly in comparison . But the G2 is factually hard to cock and the bolt is rough feeling whereas the Marauder is a smooth pull.

I would think going down from 357 to 22 will be a disappointment for consistent 100yd accuracy in a field rifle and you should consider 25cal.     The Avenger with plastic stocks in this cal gets it done and is my choice over other more expensive guns in my rack.

I hadn't thought to consider caliber and accuracy, I'll have to read up on that, thanks!

The Marauder .25 is not twice the price of the UX G2 .25:

That is a great price, but if I was going Marauder, I was thinking going all the way with the Lothar barrel. I read that it makes a difference at longer ranges?

The Crosman LW match grade barrel is sweet. I scrounged up a couple and have one in a marauder and one in a fortitude. IMO it is worth the extra money.

If weight is an issue, it's the Avenger hands down. The others mentioned are all too heavy for me.

My Avenger is my heaviest air gun, I only have 3.  I have been avoiding ones that weigh 8 lbs.  Maybe I would like them but two extra pounds to carry around seems like a significant drawback.  But if you only shoot from a bench or a blind, maybe not. 

I like my Avenger and it is accurate but all the plastic used in the construction does not make it feel as high in quality as my Prod or P35.  But it works well.  I still enjoy shooting it.

My P35 and Avenger are 25 caliber.  My next will be a 22 (probably a P35).  The ammo is significantly more expensive for the 25s but the bigger issue is I cannot use them for small game on public land in SC.  Not only is 25 caliber information more expensive, there is also less variety.  There are plenty of youtubers using 22s at 100 yards or more - but usually with slugs.

I see, well, then you are making an apple to orange comparison when you say the Lothar equipped M-Rod is twice the price of the G2 and Avenger because neither of those have a Lothar barrel either. If they did the M-Rod would not be twice the price if they were so equipped.

Just to say it, the .25 never had a LW barrel option and my .25 Marauder is more accurate head to head than my .25 G2. Both are plenty accurate.

So if a Lothar barrel is a requirement then you have eliminated the Avenger and the G2.
