Consumer Cellular? any experience, advice, opinions

I will add …as mentioned also 3g phone was phased out….I called apple online store ….told them what I wanted…this was on a Sunday morning….that afternoon uber courier delivered my order…Monday went to att store and they installed SIM card and I was good to go….my 5s smart was a hand me down …so I treated myself to a 13mini…hopefully be the last phone I buy……I dont talk much and text with family….but that camera is a keeper….I do like being plugged into my bank and cc for alerts…good  luck

I used them for a few years, back in the early 2000. Never had any issues.

We had Cricket but they phased out 3G as well and made so our phones would no longer work on the network so we moved to Mint, the old phones work fine and no indication that we cant continue using them.

I have the same for work, I am not supposed to use it for personal stuff though.

I have the 12 now and due for an upgrade to the 13.
I turned off my personal phone when I first got it and we put a house phone in for Betty Lou.

The other advantage of text is that you can often send and receive messages when the signal strength, quality or user load won't support a voice call. Or you don't want to make noise hunting.

 I have mint, pre pay for a year, best deal for me. BUT, it is a reseller of Tmobile. Tmobile is fine in urban - populated areas, along the intersate system. In more rural areas I think Verizon is best (also in all the other areas). SWMBO has prepaid verizon, so on our travels we have a phone with coverage, ( I can hotspot off hers for wifi calling, so I can access my bank email etc.)

Look at coverage in the areas you expect to use it, if you travel some, look at those areas also, a higher price plan might be the cheapest if it works when you really need it, and the other wouldnt have. As we get older being able to call 911 is a real concern.

Having a phone with wifi calling ability is handy in some settings.

5g may not going to work for the older flip phone. Verizons map looks very different.

My experience is Verizon has better coverage (at least or 4G LTE) through out the geographic areas, Tmobile has most of the population covered, not most of the physical area.
Anyway, OP, you may need to upgrade your phone, as 3G disappears. Again, check service in your area, and places you go.

That big white area on that map where there is no coverage in the center of the country........that's dead in the middle of where I live. Sandhills. Where you can drive for an hour and not see another vehicle, then see 6-8 vehicles ALL sitting on the top of 1 hill, 50 miles from the closest traffic light. 'Cause that's the only place you get reception.

It still really surprises me that in this day and age, that such a highly advanced and wealthy country like the US still has such a massive cell reception dead/barren area.
