I don't think you got screwed. I got my HW95 for $119.00 out-the-door. I got lucky because the place I bought mine only knows tupperware pistols and jammamatic-15s.
The 2 Weihrauchs I have are both excellent shooters. my other HW is an HW30s that I got from Pyramyd Air last year on sale.
Does your 55 have the Rekord trigger? The Rekord trigger has an aluminum trigger-sometimes gold anodized- and an adjustment screw behind the trigger.
Both of mine have it and it's an excellent trigger.
I need to install the tune kit/spring I bought in my HW95. It's a bit twangy, but still very accurate and powerful enough to drop squirrels at 30 yards with head or heart shots.
BTW, the CHEAPEST HW air rifle at pyramydair dot com is the HW30s(same as mine, same as Beeman R7) for $314.50.
I want an HW50S, but they're $379.95.
Depending on the year of manufacture, it could have a Rekord trigger, or a different trigger. If the trigger is stamped sheet metal, it's a pre-Rekord trigger.
I would have bought it, too. After all, it cost you less than a Chinese made magnum springer, it's German made, it's German made, and it's German made.
It also seems to be not the most commonly encountered Weihrauch encountered in the US.
Had it been me, I would have handed the money to the seller so fast, he would have gotten friction burns on his palm.

Yep. That sounds like the Rekord trigger. If it's shooting walnuts out of the tree at 45-50 feet with iron sights, I'd be plenty happy with it.
That's equal to headshots on squirrels.
The craftsmanship on Weihrauch air guns is definitely excellent. Better than many firearms. I had a friend tell me there's no way he'd pay what Weihrauch charges for their airguns, and that he'd buy a Ruger 10/22, instead.
I tried explaining to him that the quality of a Weihrauch air rifle is head and shoulders above anything Ruger has ever made (and I am a Ruger fan), but it fell on deaf ears. He thinks all "pellet guns" should be cheap because they're not firearms.
I've had idiots that work a gun stores say the same thing about quality air guns and archery equipment. If it won't throw a hail of bullets, it's not worth anything.
I don't blame you for getting it. I've been thrilled with my HW95. It's been a more effective squirrel hunting gun than my .22 rimfire.
It's accurate and quiet.
It also has beautiful wood and bluing.
The Rekord trigger is better than just about any firearm trigger available. It's better than a Timney trigger (I have 2 Weihrauchs with Rekord triggers and 2 rifles with Timney triggers).

i must agree with you jaymo i own a 10-22 and a mark III had to install a trigger kit in the III its fine but good ammo costs are high and its more of a challange to make great shots with air like you said lots refer to a fine air gun as a bb gun like the balls roll down the barrel it has the rekford trigger i cleaned it up some more a little ed's red on a coarce paper towl and some rubbing the pepperd spots well most went away the gun is dead on i shot some rws super point extras and was real impressed you cant beat the feel of a well crafted gun. its a keeper

I have a Ruger mark II and love it. It's a great little pistol. I'd like to put a better trigger in it.
I shoot air guns a lot more, because of ammo prices.
So far, all of my air rifles like RWS Superdomes, and most like Crosman domed.

yes ive found out the same with mine im thinking about going up to basspro and look at what they have in stock too bad they all dont have a small package with some of all their pellets in like a trial pack so we can decide what kind of fodder they love . as for your mark II i got a volqusteen kit for mine it was around $100 but well woth it 2.5 pounds trigger pull and you can set the creep also but while your at it take the bolt out and get some flix and put on a felt polishing wheel and polish the bolt up well it will cycle lots smoother and faster also polished mine a week and 300 rounds after the trigger change wish id of polished it at the start

I've been thinking about getting the Volquartsen kit. They make great products for Ruger rimfires. The bolt definitely could use some polishing.
I have a NIB 10/22 Magnum that I bought new in 2000 or 2001, it's the early, single extractor(reliable, not breakage prone) version.
I need to shoot it, but the price of .22 Mag ammo had gone up so much.
Thus, I shoot lots of airguns.
I'm dying to see pics of your HW55.
I want an HW55 and an HW50S. I need to take my HW30S out and shoot it more often. It's a fun gun to shoot. Easy cocking and easy shooting. Light weight, Rekord trigger, shoots about 675 fps, accurate and quiet.
I especially like how refined the HW airguns are.
That, and they look good. I never liked breakbarrel airguns until I got my HW95.
