 Anyone on here changed the leather seal out on a rws 45?? I tryed to save the leather seal but  cant its a 1979 air rifle., Best I can tell not much will interchange on it no 34 or 36s or 94s, It does have a steel trigger Everything i look for in parts if it has a steel trigger its a no go with parts.  Yes they have the leather seal. Was hoping i could find one of the newer pistons that use a regular seal.  Does look like i may have to stay with leather or make some sort of seal adapter. David

I understand that the leather in belts is a good material to use when making a new leather seal.
Most "old timers" like the leather seals more than the modern synthetic ones.

Can you, please, measure the OD of the piston?

There are 2 different piston sizes in the "45's" (there are, at least 5 variations that bear the same model number).

I have some leather seals, but I need the OD of the piston you have.

I've read that the D45's leather piston seal is riveted, not screwed in place (as would be the usual practice). This creates an extra hump into the piston seal changing procedure.

 It does and has a plastic shim behind the seal.
I have worked on quiet a few airguns but this one is a little different. Thing is i bought this gun new in 79 never did anything to it. I did give it to a good friend and it got passed to some one else which is a great friend. He gave it back to me lol!! Whats the chances of that.  Im kinda getting back to shooting springers and forgot how much fun they are. No tanks fittings pumps. Just pellets and a little arm power. David

 The seal does have a rivet looks like a roll pin I did manage to pull it out, I made a bevel washer to fit inside a 28mm seal, it will need to be sized, I did drill the center of the piston out and tapped it 1/4x28 I used a bevel headed screw to fit the bushing i made. I will post some pictures soon. David

I have a seal you may be able to use:

it is 27.3 mm's at the base, 28.3 mm's at the front of the "inverted parachute". Hole at base is 7.45 mm's

"SOP" for this would be to make a washer that would center the leather hole and hold the "in" sides of the leather lips in place @ diameter,
have a 28 mm's ID short piece of steel tube slid over the leather of the seal's lip,
assemble everything,
trim the seal to length,
oil the leather while in the short "holder tube" (I would use Tefon oil, but others use a ½/½ mix of silicone and neatsfoot)
let it soak oil overnight
transfer the assembled piston from "holder" directly to the gun (assuming it has already been de-burred, thoroughly cleaned, and lubed).

After the experiences with the LG55 and  LGV's I would rather create an ORing piston head; that would solve the seal issue forever, LOL! but I do understand the desire to keep an "old flame", as she was first met.
