Backup squirrel pistol

Good morning amigos.
So recently I got reacquainted with an old buddy of mine. Apparently nobody picked the pecans last year   so now it's squirrel heaven. We setup about 40 yards away with .25cal jsb hades, 4 squirrels one got away. Went on to retrieve one behind a tree and had enough in him to run off.  If I had a side arm I could have finished him and added to the pot. Any recommendations.? Prefer that it uses pellets and prefer it to like the polymags. What cal?..idk. How strong? Idk either. Irons? Prefer a micro dot type of pistol. 
Figured I ask first before jumping the gun on a walmart bb pistol.

BTW skinned the squirrels and found 2 jsb pellets no expansion..

Depends on how much money you want to spend. I really like my HW44 and it’s worth every penny. It generates almost 17 FPE at the muzzle.

An Artemis pp750 in .22....not too expensive, multi shot. Krale 230 bucks, AirgunArchery Canada out of stock now....

 Another thought would be a 2240 XL they come with a steel breach and threaded muzzle, CO2 should be a non issue, in your climate, good enough for a close  up finishing shot.

I'm really liking the 2240. For the price it's not to shabby. I'm going to watch 2240 youtube videos for about a week. See what's up,  thanks for these, they sure as heck beat those blowback co2's that run dry in like 2 seconds.

Yeah, a 2240 or 1322 (if you don't want to buy C02) are good options. The Artemis pistol is a nice options too. I usually take a Daisy 880, or a "chopped" 760 pumpmaster.

The HW44 seems very nice, but is pricey. You could probably even reach out some with 17fpe on tap.

If on a tight budget and have a strong stomach (and don't mind people giving you funny looks), a shovel works in a pinch...

I'm thinking that your walking across the lawn with a pistol in-hand is not much better than having a rifle in-hand. However, if you're going to conceal it until you get there, I guess that's better.

Here are my thoughts:

• Benji NP Trail pistol - I have one and it's not bad. No CO2 to mess around with, powerful enough, but kinda big. Cheap. Quiet.
• Marauder Pistol - Much more capable, but it's really a stretch to call it a pistol. Still, you could conceal it inside a jacket... Nice thing about this is that it would have other applications, besides just a coup de grace gun.
• Crosman .357 / Vigilante or whatever they're calling it these days. A nice, cheap CO2 pellet revolver. These are fun for plinking, and some lightweight domes would finish the squirrel with a head shot. They're kind of loud, though.

My direct suggestion is to get a 1322.  They are cheap and it should be enough for a finisher. 

My other suggestion is get a doggie.  Mine came from the pound.  One of her favorite things to do is watch the backyard for targets for me.  When she hears the gun go off she always thinks I hit it and demands to go out and find it.  If it wiggles at all when she gets there she gives it a vigorus shake.  I have to take it from her, however, fairly quickly, she has  been known to bite off a piece.

It's a stubby I built from 2240 parts. I have one in .22 and one in .177.

+1 for the 1322 for me.
Its compact enough, has tons of aftermarket upgrades available, no co2 or HPA to contend with, just load and pump, all day shooting as long as you have pellets and also adjustable power by the amount of pumps you put in.
No need to pump up to 10 if 5 pumps will get the job done at close range
When they have scopes mounted on them, we use power drill holsters from lowes to carry them in the woods. They make for decent low cost holsters.

At close range, a Beeman p-17 could get the job done as well.

If you really want to go all out, look at the Ataman AP-16!  It's a multi-shot PCP that is compact enough to holster and delivered plenty of power to dispatch a squirrel.  It's also very accurate!
