interesting about the hardness changing over three weeks… is there a noticeable difference for example between freshly cast projectiles vs. those that sat around for a while?

Pure lead does not get harder over time, antimony and arsenic will harden lead as will heat treating if those elements are present.

I have always shot freshly cast slugs without any thought… like 1 hour after casting. Not a problem?

Pure lead is fine, alloys do change over time.

If you have a. Inch of lead pipe dug up from the ground, putting that into ingots lets you clean the lead first, then store it in stackable forms.

First mold and handles arrived today. I wish it wasnt so cold out becasue I want to get my stuff set over to pure lead and get that in ingots and then do some casting.

Matt what mold came in? I've been wanting that 41grBBT. That other mold the .249-39-rf ? That looks like it has a lot of bore friction. Interested in this as well.

The jsb redesigns were going 201mps the mp 5.55 went 219mps on same setting and are very accurate. I love how it gained 17mps and 10+gr.

I had to do the same thing with one of the molds, I gave Al a call about 9am EST and it was a mixup in shipping evidently but he got the mold on it's way. It always showed up with the tracking number but never got picked up by USPS.

I ordered a mold some time ago and got a mold from a later order first. I think the website might not always be accurate regarding what is in stock.

So I decided to melt some lead and casted some from my 250-41-fn-bk2-2-cavity-bt-rg2 today just because. Im pretty sure this is how you melt down a split pig ingot??? Right? right... No ok...

It all depends on the melting pot! Is it capable to hold about 60 lb lead or not. If it does, it's all good, if it doesn't, you have one heck of a molten lead mess!

Matt I got tired of the hammer and chisel method so I bought an air chisel, I used it on the last hunk of a split pig ingot and it went through it like butter . . . soon after that is when a friend (contractor for the city) started dropping off long sections of lead pipe that he pulled to replace with copper. I haven't used a chisel since because then I went and bought a big pair of of loppers. I still have a huge pile I've yet to cut up, and a bunch already lopped up that needs to be melted in 3 big buckets. I've been casting through the winter with probably only 15lbs of lead up in my attic however when warmer weather gets here I've got a big 55 gallon drum made into a big cooker that will be heating up everything in a big dutch oven to melt the rest and cast into ingots.

Sawzall is my method. I just put it in a shallow tub to catch the shavings.
