50+ Yd group with Pneuma and JSB's 18.1

I finally received some pellets besides the CPHP's I have been shooting in my Pneuma. I also ordered an "Air Stripper" to see if it made a difference. After a few initial shots it appeared the JSB's grouped more consistently and tried a few shots with and without the air stripper. Here are the groups with and without the stripper.
I was pleased but was unable to shoot for a week.Today got the gun back out, shot a few over the chrony (790 FPS). Then refilled the gun and shot the 10 shot group shown below.
I'm still playin with the power settings and some other things. I had noticed the gun grouping better with my home made cardboard muzzle protector. Decided to try the air stripper and think It helps. The groups above were shot with only one of the two barrel bands.
Hope to keep similar accuracy with about another 50 FPS.
Have a nice day.

hey PW, got a picture of that air stripper? Can it also be used to collect dust? j/k. nice grouping for 50 yards. I have some of those JSBs, but no rifle (still out for warranty repair: scatter-gun accuracy caused by the magazines: both of them).
Other than not being able to hit anything, it's a nice rifle. I'm encouraged to see that others like you are getting really tight groups at good distances. Can't wait to join the party.

The jsb pellets seem much more consistent. The aor stripper as it is lets a good bit of dust out.
. However it could be used as a starting point. Tbe other ldc I use is made of cardboard, duct tape, and hardware store.items. It works great but can be knocked off center easily. But it too improves accuracy.

PW, in trouble-shooting the accuracy issues I've had I saw a difference with and without the magazines. The accuracy improved greatly once I loaded pellets manually (where did I put that custom cardboard shot tray??). So I had to conclude it was the magazines somehow messing with the pellets. I think it's an alignment issue because sometimes it was really hard to load a pellet through the magazine. Sometimes I'd accidentally double-load. Can't wait to get it back and try some 50 yard groups. I hope I can come close to the performance your rifle is giving you.

That's very impressive 50 yard shooting. Nicely done.

Excellent group. My Indy really does good with the JSB 18.1's as well. Good shooting!

A brief follow up. I tried shooting from a specific fill point with and without the stripper and got similar groups to those above. a larger number of groups is needed.

Gerald, I think I've got my accuracy issues worked out. Am I understanding you correctly that the air stripper gives you tighter groups, but does not quiet the rifle? I have a good LDC on mine, but accuracy trumps everything else, so if I can improve it, I should. I just received my Hatsan PCP catalog (see in the Turkish Gate for pictures). Where did you order your air stripper from?

The air stripper may kill some of that crack down range from the barrel, since it diverts the air and some sound sideways slightly. But it won't actually make it quieter.
Great groups btw! Jsbs are my favorite pellets, superb accuracy and consistency with a good bc. That is until I buy a gun that hates them :p

Great shooting. I may have to rethink about the PCP. Still using

even in pistols.

I had thought at first that the stripper was helping but may have been jumping to conclusions. I shot a few days later and got similar groups.
More sampling is needed.

you guys see this about a regulator for the Pneuma? I would not mind having one of these in my Pneuma. At my sweet spot for fill and accuracy I only get 20 good shots filling to 145 bar/2000PSI. I've contacted the guy about the possibility of him making one for me. Look at how flat his shot string is over 50 shots.

Walter has posted 2 strings in .22 cal, in the first he used 1500 psi setpoint for the regulator and got 17.7 FPE for 70 shots, using 100 Bar from the long (230cc) reservoir with an efficiency of 1.06 FPE/CI.... Then he increased the pressure to 2000 psi and leaned on the hammer spring a bit.... He then got 50 shots at 20 FPE using 105 Bar of air for an efficiency of only 0.80 FPE/CI.... As I have been saying when asked about regulated setups, they are at their best when used at reduced power settings.... To be sure, the strings are very flat, but you have to give up something to get that.... either power or efficiency.... You have to remember that the unregulated version shoots over 30 FPE (for about 30 shots) with the same 14.3 gr. pellets in this long barreled version....

I am really wanting to install a regulator. The pneuma seems ideal since swapping back its just a matter of cylinders.

Bob, I see what you're saying. The issue I ran into with mine is this: While I could get 30 shots with a fill to 200 bar, my accuracy really lacked. It took me a while to sort it out, but the accuracy showed up with fills only to 145bar/2000psi. So I had only from 145 bar down to about 80bar, maybe 75, and with that I am only getting 20 shots. Trying to push the shot count, I ran into the valve leaking the pressure dropped to about 70 bar. Of course cocking the rifle stopped the leak; not enough pressure in the tank to hold back the hammer with any tension on it. I'll have to sort out where I want to be with this rifle. I'm using the JSB Jumbo Heavies @18.1 grains now. I guess it's back to considering plugging holes? Probably a bit less expensive than buying a regulator.
darryl
PS I have two turns on the hammer now, but I'll return it to minimum tomorrow. Mine just uses a lot of air.
