Selling off collection

I know it is hard to part with them, but calling dibs, just in case!

I sold a few guns on Ebay before Christmas and did OK, but the fees were high - 12.55% of the total sale including shipping and buyer's tax.
I'll spare you the math, but if I sell a gun on ebay for $500 plus $35 shipping, I end up with about $425 take-home after the fees. If I had $400 into the gun, I only profit $25 from selling for $100 more than I paid. I could offer it to the forum for $450 plus shipping and both the buyer and I would come out ahead. Granted, there might not be buyer on this forum, but it's nice to offer it here before everyone pays ebay their tithe.
Gunbroker has much lower fees, and although they have less traffic, rarer vintage rifles still seem to go high.

It’s a sellers market right now.   I think the goal is buy low sell high?  Not a bad time to unload a few. I would like to but going to wait for my table at airgun shows next year.  Only problem I  buy as many as I sell!

That's a problem, to be sure, but my problem is I buy and don't sell!
@Acapulco, should you decide to sell, it wouldn't hurt to list here since there are no fees as far as I know.

I personally stick to estate sales. I know I may never find that special one but you can't beat the prices. The Crosman 101 I bought a few weeks ago only cost $17.50. I have right at $83.00 in it after repairs and it shoots great! I know it's no cream puff but I really like it. Estate and yard sale finds are great.

Thank you for pointing out the drawbacks to selling for crazy prices on auction sites.  I have paid a lot for a couple of guns via on-line auctions but I have seen a lot more there that I would have gladly purchased had they been offered for sale on the air gun forums for the same money as the seller realized after auction fees.

Hopefully sellers will do the math before committing their guns to auction and consider selling to fellow forum members first.  Worst that can happen is a seller posts a free add on the forums and ends up not selling.  No harm, no foul.

I have old PM's from people who expressed a desire to own guns in my meager little collection who I would contact before even placing an add on the forums.

As for the original question, have I considered selling my collection, the day will come that they all go into the hands of future caregivers but for now they are not breaking the bank sitting in the safe and each one holds the promise of days afield or at the range that may or may not ever come, but one can dream.  I have, however, provided a detailed list of each along with accessories and estimated values in case one day my wife is unexpectedly left with the chore of liquidating them.

I don't know about illegal but we just use common sense down here. We are not going to shut down over a variant of the virus that is less deadly than the flue. The rest of the country can be absolutely insane. I am glad I live here.

Yea they had LOTS of guns. I just found the Crosman 101 buried in the pile and grabbed it. I don't think they knew what it was because of no model number on it. Most of the other guns I considered to be way over priced.

If I was going to sell on ebay I'd just set a price buy it now for 15% more than what I want in my pocket.  If I can't get it to heck with it, I've never sold anything on ebay ever.
