Need some compressor help

I’ve got a tuxing 220v compressor, it’s been great with zero issues and I’ve ran it a lot. Well I’ve finally got an issue, it’s building pressure in the crankcase. I’ve got the vent plug in and it almost started whistling out the vent hole. I assume it’s blowing by the piston, don’t know how else it could get there. The cylinder and piston were a little dirty, but all the seals look good.

I’m a novice with compressors, need some troubleshooting advice. Thanks in advance, Merry Christmas to all!

Not familiar with that particular brand. But if there's a vid or 2 out there? My Yong heng has a Reed valve that controls in and out air. If yours has something like that or a check type valve.  It may just be dirty or gummed up. Something like that could cause your symptoms.

I don’t have a video, And I’ve got it apart now. I think it’s the same general design as a yong heng. Can’t see where it would have any type of valve between the crankcase and the piston. Trying to post a picture, usually takes me a bit to get that done.

Hey Rod I found the reed valve, it’s between the piston cylinder and I guess the head. Got her all cleaned up, gonna go give it a go. Thanks man hope that was it.

Well that didn’t fix it. With my limited knowledge it looks like the only way for it to get air into the crank would be a leak in the piston or cylinder. There’s no scarring to the cylinder walls and the piston rings look ok. There is a little play in the piston, could I have wore out rings and it’s blowing by directly into the crankcase?

That valve your talking about has nothing to do with your problem. That works with high pressure air going out. Tuxing is almost indentical to the young heng.For you to be building crankcase pressure, your crankcase vent has to be plugged. In most cases its the place where you put the oil in. You should be able to take that plug out, wipe it off good ,cuase it'll taste of oil. "won,t kill ya. Any way you should be able to blow air with your mouth through it . Put the threaded end in your mouth. I know I'm crude but, it works. Building pressure is one thing, Holding it in thre is a different game.

The plug is venting and working as it should. There is way to much air getting into the crank though, it will only build pressure if you plug it. For example when I’m topping off my little buddy bottle I hook everything up and pressure the system with the bottle. Before it would equalize at whatever pressure the bottle had and it would pretty well hold it there and I’d turn the compressor on and top it off. Now without the compressor running it will blow air through to the crank case, does the same thing with the compressor running also. I think it’s got to be blowing air past the piston rings.

Just talked to viridiumair, it’s fried piston rings. They’re sending me some out no charge. Never dealt with them before as I haven’t had issues with the compressor. Great guy whose a shooter of course.

Fist stage or second stage rings? IIRC the first stage (looks like engine piston rings) there wasn't a locating pin on the piston. You can try clocking the ring gaps 180* apart and see if that helps with the blowby.

Gotta reiterate! I can’t speak highly enough of Viridium. Answered on Christmas Eve and talked about airguns for 15 minutes. Then assured me the rings will be sent out first day the post office is open. Threw in a check valve too, just to be sure.

I've always gotten great support for the two tuxings I've had.  Hope the rings fix it.

Wow Tuxing is doing you right for sure, I've never owned a Tuxing however this tells me there really is support for them

 Viridium Air has done alot for the Artemis brand as far as lego parts, and now I see they provide some compressor support. They are GREAT to do business with!

Yes I am very impressed. Been kinda looking at upgrading to a bigger compressor to fill bottles with. I’m pretty sure when I pull the trigger on one in the next couple months, I’m going to stick with tuxing. The one I have has filled two guns, ones a bottle gun, for almost two years, and been filling a buddy bottle for a few months now. This is the first time I’ve had the slightest issue, and I’m sure it’s from stretching the run time on my little bottle.

If the rings are similar to the Yong Heng keep in mind when installing that they have a top and bottom side to them, so don't install upside down, look closely at the old ones before removing them so you can orient the new ones correctly.

Thanks Tom for the heads up. Luckily I haven’t taken the old ones off the piston. I without fail would have thrown them in and fired her up, knowing my luck they would have all been flipped over the wrong way. Much appreciation.
