Marauder Stock Refinishing and Scope Cam Test Video! :-)

So, like most things in my life, I cannot leave them stock. I hack and mod just about every toy I get. The Marauder is no different. First off, I really don't like the color of the stock out of the box. It's just kinda drab IMHO. So, I spend a couple really hard hours yesterday sanding all of that finish off.

Results are attached.

I just applied the first coat of Watco Golden Oak Danish Oil and it looks gorgeous. I'll upload more pics when it's done.



EDIT: And here's a video I made with my new scope cam rig shooting a 'mater @ 30 yards... It won't be sideways next time! ;-)

cool scope cam. what did you use for a mount? i'm gonna get one soon. that mrod stock looks really good. i need to refinish mine. as well. looking good.

The camera mount is an Orion SteadyPix... they make 2 and I have the cheaper one.

I'll post more pics when the refinish is complete.

Thanks guys. I just applied the finishing coat of minwax to the stock and I am buffing it out. I'll reasseble the rifle and post pics. Too bad it's raining.... I'd like to try another video too. Maybe I can snipe out the window.

How did you go about sanding the checkering and not mess it up? What grit sandpaper did you use?

I just sanded over the checkering lightly until the finish was gone. The checkering was much deeper than the finish.

I began with 120 and worked it up to 400 grit. Then I did about 4 coats of Watco Danish Oil, Golden Oak. Once that dried for a full day or so, I did a couple coats of minwax natural finish.
