A brand new Diana 340 N- Tech.

I gave up looking for a Diana 280. Instead in a moment of complete self indulgence I bought a Diana 340 with a beach stock. I have no intention of doing a review. There are plenty of those about. The rifle is a real beauty. So very nicely made and a delight to handle, a very good TO6 trigger. It is raining heavily here so I have cleaned the barrel and put a few shots out the shed door into the wood heap. With open sights it shows that the only limitation on accuracy is the ability of the shooter. The action is very much like the old D34 but the gas ram gives a very smooth discharge, quite snappy and a loud-ish pop. Easy to cock. I don't think the noise will be very loud at a distance from the shooter.
These rifles are very expensive in New Zealand. $799.00 NZ. It puts all the plastic Gamos and Stoegers in the shade. Open sights for the time being and they are good sights. Not plastic dayglow stuff. Real rifle sights.
 I am fizzing at the bung over this rifle and I just have to go and have few more shots.

I have their Luxus stock which is beautiful curly Walnut. I likethis breahbarrel best in my 6 stable breakbarrel collection. I have Williams peep with front post tapered point.

Would have been money well spent.  The Hogsback in walnut is the nicest OEM stock every put on an air rifle!

Christmas eve and best wishes to you.
I got my present a while ago and have been plinking away with it. The groups are consistant but not tight enough by a long way. I am not sure if it is because I have not yet found the best pelet or if it is because of the foresight. The blade is sharpened to a fine point and when shooting the tip becomes blury. Of course it could just be the wobbly shooter. Trying a scope out soo to see if that helps.
The other point that I hope Hector takes on board is the very  standard stock screws. The screws are supposed to be held fast in the wooden stock by the star washers. That system allows them to come lose and the washers eat into the wood. I am sure Diana could come up with a better washer system and become leaders in that field.
I have gone to my favorite roofing screw rubber/ synthetic washers and the screws do not come undone and no need for loctiite.
Nothing to fret about so enjoy your Christmas dinner.

I experienced exactly yhe same problem. What was Diana thinking.  G et rid of the star washers and all is well. DUH? No other mfg makes this HUGE error. This is my ONLY grip, I love the 340. It's my favorite breakbarrel out of 5 in my collection.

Yes, I removed the star washers as they were chewing up the stock. Hardened up the wood using a some 30% w/v Paraloid B-72 acrylic adhesive I had on hand, put in steel flat washers, and then used nord-loc washers as recommended by Hector between the screw and the flat washer's surface. (Nord loc washers want a metal to metal surface).

That is what I have done to ALL my springers, Diana or not.

My 340 N-Tech is coming along well. I have mounted a scope and groups have tightened up considerably. I decided to take the rear iron sight off and noticed it was very lose despite having tightened the screws twice. It appears to be an afterthought  as it is mounted on the ridged top of the breech block. However the underside of the sight has a concaved surface as if it  was made to fit a different breach block. Maybe the concave saves machining a flat surface on the underside of the sight. I was a little disappointed when I saw that. Just a slight tick against what is a very nice rifle. Accuracy is very good but no better than my gas ram Gamo Challenger. Power is better though and it will soon be time to go rabbiting with it.

Just curious but have you determined should your gas ram fail that you'll be able to source a replacement? Thats always been a concern of those for me whereas springs are easy to come by from many sources.

If you store them with the piston seal down they last along time.  I'm going on 6+ years, No problems.

Yes, it is-it keeps the oil in the gas spring down around the internal seals of the same; making it last much longer.

Gamos also have only stock-chewing star washers in there. I'm sure plenty of Chinese guns do, as well. Not that Gamo is making all that many wood stock springers anymore.

Still, among German springers Diana is alone with the quick, dirty and poor washer configuration.

Hector posted in another thread that part of their problems was moving to a new bigger building but once that's done and they
can ramp up production again. rifles, parts and pieces will finally start heading to retailers.
I say that because the new 34 EMS is a mix of parts from both the D34 and the 340 N-tec rifles with a few other things
thrown in and the gas ram option for it if memory serves will also work in the 340.

I didnt think of a replacement ram should that be necessary. I can only hope now. Our top airgun shop, Youngs airgun Centre has always had whatever i have needed  I live in faith. As a precaution I will now store it upside down. Better still just use it lots.

That Diana is a great looking rifle!  How is the front sight?  Did it come with replacement inserts?  The "hog back" stock is a nice looking unit.
