Yote spying on me

I was out back this evening sighting in the scope on my qb 79 hpa project.
I looked over at the fence row there looking at me is a young yote.
Well the qb is 177 so all could do was look back at him through the glass.
I think he was interested in my shooting they have been seen behind the school next to me they have a woods on there property .
He probably never heard shooting with no hunting on school property.
He turned went back in to the brush.
I will be back out tomorrow and shoot the qb also i will have the disco ready for him if he returns.

I wonder if the coyote is there checking out some of the small children.  What kind of school is it?  Kindergarden or grammar school?  If there are very young children there, I would alert the school officials to keep an eye out.  Hope you get it with the Disco next time!

Don't shoot that coyote with a Disco.  With such a low powered gun, you have a 50/50  chance of merely wounding it.  Then you may very well have a wounded coyote in the vicinity of the neighborhood/school, which is WAAYYYYY more dangerous than a healthy one.  Think of the children.

Smallbores in general are not the tool for the job when it comes to coyotes, and/or small hogs (pass it on).  Get a bigbore airgun for coyotes .308 minimum (preferably .357 min).

Taking out a Coyote with a Disco .22 requires a very precise shot to the brain (between the eyes when their head is down) and a reasonable distance of no more than 25-30yds.  It can be done, but if the circuimstances are not ideal or perfect, then do not take the shot.  Use a big bore AG instead, powderburner (if legal), etc.  I personally would feel a lot more comfortable with at least 40fpe at the muzzle, like with a .25 Marauder, or Condor .22 or .25.  Only to minimize the risk

I wanted to add, that IMO the best route to the fusebox when using a low power/caliber rifle is from the side of the skull between the ear and the eye a bit closer to the ear.  The proper angle for a frontal between the eyes shot seems to be a lot harder to get than the between ear/eye shot.  The between the eyes route is a lot narrower/trickier.  There is a lot angle, and bone in the way between the eyes, which also increases the chance of ricochet, whereas the rest of the skull offers a good angle, a larger kill zone and much less bone.  Roundnose ammo also has a much higher chance of ricocheting on a not-so-favorable angle than a flat nosed slug.  


A bigbore airgun shooting large-meplat slugs on the other hand......you could probably get away with a Texas Heart Shot on those with a Tuned Korean or greater in power.  Coyotes are really built on the light side for their apparent size (bobcats, too).

Compare the structure of the coyote skull I have here, to the skull of most other animals you may shoot between the eyes with a lower powered rifle.  The structure of the coyotes' skull is quite distinct (the distinct ridge at the top of the head that splits-off, and over the eyes is way cool lookin').  Note how flat, sleek, and angular the front of the coyotes' skull is (thus placing the brain further back, with relatively more bone in front of it), and also the structure down the center between the eyes on both.  The side of the skull is really thin and at a favorable angle.......the difference in ricochet potential is clear.

See why I suggest closer to the ear, when I say between ear and eye closer to the ear?  Provides the most brain tissue to target, and may help prevent that animal-loosing/suffering jawbone shot.

Would you think that a Sumatra would be powerful enough to take down the coyote?  I had one in the deep part of my yard, maybe about 60 yards out or so.

I think it is interesting that there is much interest in coyote hunting with air rifles.  It's kind of like using fly fishing rod to bring in a yellow fin tuna or tarpon.  Neat.

there is a guy in my area who routinely takes coyotes at 75yds with an airforce condor and 21gr kodiaks

i like to carry my Remmy 1187 with an undertake choke and some Dead coyote T shot
deadly on coyotes out to 60 yards If I need farther I have the Encore pistol in .223 handy

well the weather here has been raining and windy so haven't been out
to look for him.
Hope i get a break in the weather.
