Artemis PP700 Scope Vs Red Dot

So I had a chance to try a Hawke red dot on my pp700 before I installed the 4x Hawke scope. This morning I zeroed the scope but found some downfalls using a scope versus a red dot.

SCOPE:
Pros
1.More accurate vs red dot
Cons
1.Makes gun heavy
2.Makes gun unbalanced
3.Loading difficult (pellet pen doesn’t work on this gun I already tried)
4.Bulky

Red Dot
Pros
1.Light weight
2.Fast Target acquisition
3.Easy to load pellets
4.Compact
Cons
1.Not as accurate as a scope but for 500 fps it’s plenty accurate for close up Target work

Winner : Red dot goes back on. I will be returning the scope to fund a Donny FL Tatsu for the AEA PISTOL That is on the way.

I agree completely with your assessment.  I've tried a scope on mine too, and the gun is clearly accurate enough to warrant one, but the red dot is so much better in actual use for a pistol.  I think if I were planning on using it as a carbine I would stick with the scope as the added aiming accuracy would pay off that way.

Maybe I’ll give the scope a minute to grow on me. It is accurate

I've got the "Ocelot" version of the PP700.
It's had a couple of different red dot sights on it.  Right now it's got a SeeAll sight on it.  Sort of a cross between a red dot and iron sights.  It's got tritium lit, delta (solid triangle) recital.

It's very easy to acquire the target with, and the low light shooting is also very easy to do.  No batteries required.

Need to pick up a good quality red dot, because all I have tried are the cheap ones, and just wasn't impressed at all.

I use bug busters on my PP700 & PP750 very compact not very heavy in weight, and they extend the range that I can use them effectively.

Just picked up a 20mm Hawke red dot to try on the 700 I have the 25 mm it’s a bit long. I want the red dot to only be clamped to the receiver not the shroud

Always trade offs.  Field of view/speed of target acquisition vs. magnification.

Doesn’t really change the accuracy of the pistol, just the accuracy of the shooter.

Just me, but I never seem to keep a scoped pistol as a pistol for too long. If I’m shooting  from a rest, taking my time to get it all bagged up and aligned,  and shoot if it as if it were a carbine with pretend/invisible butt stock….eventually I’ll just add a real butt stock.

Can shoot a pistol as a pistol pretty well with a compact red dot, or open iron….trading tiny paper groups for quick aliment/shots.  Red dot is faster...iron sights too simple to screw up.


Think they eventually evolve to suit the shooting we do with it most often.....function dictating form.   Whole lot of them have become carbines and are used as carbines.

Yeah at the end of the day it’s preference. You have to set up your rig the way it suits you.

I saw this on aliexpress. It's fixed zoom but I'm sure it's good enough for pistol shooting. It's pretty light coming in at just over 7.5 ounces.

I've had my PP700 for 4+ years, and it spent the vast majority of the time graced with a fixed 4x scope.  This includes for pesting, punching paper, and chasing bottle caps.

I have one of these ..... says its standard mildot spacing, every other mark is a hash. mostly clear glass... mild abheration toward the edge, can live it. says 100 yard parallax but you can play wit the focus knob to get it to focus around 7-8 yards... Well made, your offered choice of rings and heights when you order, and the flip up lens caps are very good. Thing I dont like is its really short eye releif. If your technique and or stock will let you get close to it, no issues got mine in little less than 3 weeks from China

Cool piece of kit.   Be warned though, surfing AliExpress for shooting sports stuff is an easy way to kill a few hours and a couple three beers....

I thought eye relief would be an issue. It would look a little odd on a full length rifle or even a bullpup. But for a carbine pistol like the PP700 it should suit it.
