My diy low to almost no budget scopecam setup.

Since the demise of my ATN X-sight II, I've been looking for a cheap effective method to record scopecam footage.
Finally decided to build it yesterday, so here's what I used to get this setup going so far.
1 piece pvc T- 1&1/4" diameter
1 piece round reflective glass- 42 mm diameter
1 piece 1/2" pvc collar
1 piece flat pvc sheet
6 screws
Metal epoxy
1 El cheapo action camera.

Turn the T upside down,  and insert the round glass into the T with the reflective side at a 45* angle upwards. Fix it in position to the sides with epoxy.
Drill a hole in the flat pvc, and attach the 1/2" pvc collar to it with the epoxy.
Fit your camera to the collar, place the hole in the flat pvc on top of the upside down T.
You should see an inverted image through the camera display. To remedy this  record upside down.
On the side of the T with the reflective side of the glass facing upwards,  drill holes for the screws to attach the mount to your scope.
That's it, you're done.
Entire thing cost me less than USD $20.00, and about 20 minutes thus far to assemble.


I'm not completely finished with it yet, still tidying up the aesthetics. As soon as I am I'll post pics.

This is also called a beam splitter. I built one as well, but I 3D printed mine. This allows perfect angle for the glass, friction fit into eyepiece, etc.

Normal thin plate glass will work if the inside of the “T” is painted or otherwise colored flat black. I used black velvet cloth opposite the glass.

Mine has a slot to slip in an iPhone. Original design fit a GoPro but the FOV was too wide.

What do you all use for a transparent mirror?  This is how the early Sony Alpha cameras worked in live view.  Some of the best live view shooting as the sensor looked through the mirror.  I guess this is totally opposite.  You are looking through the mirror, camera is looking at the mirror reflection.

Exactly. I used thin plate glass from a picture frame. Camera looks at reflection. Shooter looks through glass to scope eyepiece.
