Finally some time to shoot my HW95

Made it outside for a little while today. Shooting 25 yards, rested front hand, peep sight. AA 16 gr shoot pretty well.

The upper left was adjusting the sight. Upper right and center bulls were three shots that could almost be covered with a dime. The bottom two just didn’t work as well.

I am shooting left due to the return of “Face mashing” the stock. All the shots that were in the white were with my check lightly touching.....but then I forget, mash, and shoot left again. The comb is a little too high which makes me tilt more tan I like to get a good sight picture...maybe.

I need a lot more shooting.

Kurt, I think you done good.

Cheek Weld is my downfall as well.
For some reason I keep finding myself with my mouth open or clenched.
Relax but not too relaxed is a fine line for me.

More practice is what I need. If I don’t shoot for a couple weeks I seem to forget everything I learned.

I will shoot some more after church and see what happens. It’s really windy today, but that won’t stop me if I have time.

Takes some time for that natural cheekweld . I have been shooting one rifle for over 14 years , Remington 700 in 308. Shooting my one and only springer , a completely different animal , it will take some time for me to get that comfortable with this rifle , takes time and adjustments. I'm getting there. For those with many rifles is harder to get that level of comfort.

Do you have the Luxus stock? I couldn't get my face low enough on mine to use Peep sights. The Luxus stock comb is too high for my fat face. The standard Hw95 stock has a slightly lower comb and is better suited to open sights..

I have the Luxus stock on my 95 and also was smashing my face into the stock to get low enough to use open sights, was not comfortable.

That's some good springer shooting, Kirk. I use a springer hold with very little pressure on the comb and it works for me.

It’s the standard stock Ron. After shooting my 853 which has a really low comb, this one feels unnatural.

Here is this mornings effort. Five shots each @25 with AA13.43 gr.

The first four shots were virtually same hole, but then I face mashed on the fifth.

This is better than I can do with a scope on this HW95. It’s like the hold sensitivity goes away with open sights....or it’s just between my ears.

Another thing to consider is this is the first shooting I have done since replacing the cocking link with a new one that has the proper bend in it. The original was causing a lot of droop and most likely preventing good lockup. I had to bend my barrel back to straight as a result.

Maybe I would shoot better with a scope now? But this thing killed a second UTG and I am reluctant to put one of my other scopes on it.

     By the looks of the targets it looks like the rifle is shooting fine , seems like your either getting tired , rushing your shots or just getting sloppy.as you groups are going south at the end. Sorry for being so blunt but it looks to me your a good shooter when you do your part . I tried every excuse in the book but 9 out of 10 times it was me that screwed up a good group.

Chris it is absolutely me! My point in the last post was that part of my prior struggles may have been mechanical.
But thanks to Mr. Batman’s diligence in sorting out an issue he was having and posting detailed descriptions, I may have never figured out that my cocking link was not manufactured correctly causing big droop. It also ate half way through the link pin in the first 1,000 cycles.

Those last wow bulls I was not taking as much time as I should. The bottom left grouped well, just too high. The bottom right was just plain bad, then it started to rain so I quit for the day. I am very pleased.

    Being new to the sport of Springer's and having the same standard as you HW95 . 1000 pellets fired and having  problem with a cocking arm chewing up parts , what a nightmare. Ron (Bayman) knows his stuff and lucky for me he's in my neighborhood. I wouldn't hesitate to call or PM for help. I've been a benchrest shooter for many years and just got into air rifles do to the shortages in supplies. My just go air rifles from now on. Glad everything worked out well. Be We.
