Good afternoon/morning/evening - introduction

My name is Jake and I live in Los Angeles County in California. I'm old but not new to airguns.

The first one I had in the late 70's was a Daisy Pump bb/pellet gun, later an AR15 looking bb/pellet rifle and a couple pistols including the 1337 Crossman pump pistol. We lived next to a junk yard in the country so there was plenty of places to mess around and shoot stuff.

Well I'm now old and headed into a divorce. All my other pistols/rifles are expensive to shoot and can and will eat a hole in your wallet faster than you can count.

I was in Bass Pro Shops in Rancho Cucuamunga getting ammunition to feed my two .45's and having never been there stumbled down the airgun/paintball/airsoft isle. I was amazed at the air rifles and their speeds and technology. The ammunition was super cheap!

Curiousity got the best of me knowing things are gonna get tighter with the divorce and not wanting to give up shooting, I looked at Pellet rifles.

Ordered a variety of pellets from two online sites and picked up the Benjamin Trail Nitro 1200fps on sale at Bass Pro Shops.

I've never had a bbgun with a scope on it much less one that rivals my two Marlin and Ruger .22LR's

A brief test at home with no pellets inside the house scared not only the dogs but my gf.

Excited to have something cheap to shoot, maybe hunt some small game and get rid of a few nusances around the condo.


Anyway.. cut to the chase.

This seems to be the best most populated forum around so I registered.

Hey Jake, welcome to the GTA.  We're glad you're here!  First off, feel free to roam at will among the library and all of the gates.  There is so much info that you may have to stop and ask for directions a couple of times when you get lost!!  LOL

I don't know too much about the nitro guns but most of the people in the know recommend not dry firing a springer as it shortens the life of the spring.  Again, I don't know about the nitro pistons but maybe better safe than sorry.  The only thing to really worry about is the fact that airgunning is as addictive a hobby as powderburners so consider yourself warned!!

Thanks for the heads up. Only did it twice not knowing the how it affected the gun.

Last night I shot one pellet between doing all my other guy duties and taking care of the dogs and eating.

I want to get out this weekend and shoot and get used to the trigger and sight it in.
