PCP pressure gauge

I have a new Benjamin Cayden rifle along with a Hill Mk5 air pump. When the Cayden gauge reads 3000psi the Hill reads 2600. Which do I believe?

Seeing as how I was putting pressure in the crossman sponsered gun, I would use thier gauge. Right or wrong, they would not purposely blow up thier own product. Just my view of things, no expert here.

Get another pump and hope it reads closer than one of the gauges 

Have you tried lightly tapping the gauge reading lower pressure? Sometimes the needle gets caught on the gauge face or the window. Otherwise always good to be cautious and trust the higher reading as the correct one.

The Hill pump gauge is most likely to be the correct one.

I found the pump gauges to be pretty much always correct, the guns gauges ? ...not so much.

Hard to tell when you just have one PCP.

If there is more than one PCP around the place and the pump’s gauge agrees with those rifle’s gauges, then it’s easy.


So far, it’s been the little rifle “button” gauges that are off. 

Two are just broken....read zero all the time.
One is stuck at 2200psi no matter what (even sitting in the junk box).
Another is just “lazy”...takes a few minutes to creep up to it’s final reading.

Do you have a chronograph? In the absence of another pump or PCP and assuming one is correct, pump to min (3000 on Cayden) shoot known pellet and compare with another Cayden here. Make sure you record ending pressure.  See if others have the same total fpe. 400 psi should have a significant difference in total.

Thanks guys. I will drop into AofA and see if they have something to check the accuracy of the pump. Until then, I am using the Cayden's more conservative gauge to measure the pressure.

The gauge on my Cayden shows 300 psi higher pressure than my two compressors and a hand pump.
And all three agree with my one FX gun,Cayden is off.

I have the cayden 22 as well and the cayden guage is 300 psi higher that it should be
My hill mk5 pump is bang on and cheaked with a wika guage thats accurate to .05%

  One way to know when you are exeding your 3000 psi pressure limit is the first few shots will start out slower and if you realy exede your 3000 psi fill you will get valve lock and your pcp wont fire till you bleed off some Pressure,i bought a wika guage to cheak all my hpa air stuff

I just marked my gun guage where thge max is and the refill is and only use it to know when i should re fill

hehehe.... I got the giggles when I read this. 

I had a few customers reach out to me about their gauges, including one compressor that was overfilling by 200-300 psi.

I reached out to Mr. Broncato and he hooked me up with a calibrated deadhead gauge... it has also proven itself tuning a few guns to know the exact starting pressures.
