I have been using the pump that came with my Discovery for several months now and it's died 3-4 times. I don't use the gun much but literally a fill or two after the o-ring is changed it's doing the impossible to pull vacuum thing again. What now?

What kind of lube are you using and how much? It sounds to me like you are using a little more lube than needed to get the job done. Clean it out and try again.

And therein lies the problem.
Go get a tube of 100% silicone grease. A little goes a long way. Then go to the SunOptics website and watch the rebuild video or download the intsructions.

Seems like I've read lots of reports of the pumps not lasting long. Is there a permanent/semi permanent fix for these pumps?

I have had my Disco pump for three years now and it still works. I have rebuilt it two times but it has seen plenty of use. Good orings (Viton) and silicon grease on the rings, take your time pumping and it will last.
Heat is the killer on this or any pump.

I have a benji pump and use it frequently to air up my Dragon Slayer and 2260. It hasn't skipped a beat in the 9 months I've had it and I got it used.

On mine i honed the tube with 400 grit emery cloth that has fixed mine before i did that every 500 to 600 rounds i had to change the
007 o ring.
I used a wood dowel rod with a slot cut in the end to slip the emery cloth in.
