Hello scope falling off my Diana 34classic

Hi guys,

My hammers 3 9 40 ao magnum rated airgun scope is sliding off my Diana 34classic??? Is it the scopes issue, the Diana issue, or human error? The recoil pin is no longer in the hole on the dovetail where it should be, so somehow the pin got loose, any ideas on how to fix it?

What scope mount are you using?  The RWS lockdown mount has two stop pins that may help.  Are you using a torque wrench, what are you torqueing the dovetail clamp screws to?

Ya, been there...

May pit a dab of loctight on stop screw it it's vibrating up ?   Clean dovetail slot goo to remove oils,.  Now I also sand off slick paint from claw thing that fits in dovetail a tad.,

Base screws I do crank down a bit on them  I've snapped bits . I thing they call for like 35+ inch lbs/ 3+ foot pounds on them.  Look up one piece mounting torque values...

Necd, I just going to show that picture and article of SIGHTS AND SCOPE from here about using the "2" stop screws I f a mount equipment with that + it tells about the rail screws being bradded in place/ not screws!!

Check the mount torque values of that type mount and if needed go to home Depot and grab this to help.

Just put a dab of blue locktite on the stop pine screw set the mount  a little tight so you can still insure the pin and hole is lined up correct  then turn in the stop screw till it just hits lightly the bottom of the stop hole , then torque down the mount correctly,. Give loctite about 12-24 hrs to set then finish mounting scope of all checks out .. should stay .

I've been pleased with this Nieko torque driver. About $55 with free shipping and an assortment of bits (no need to go to a "big box store"...............

This may help.  Clean all scope mounting screws with alcohol or similar cleaning agents, also Q-Tips all female screw holes.   Re assemble using blue Loctite on all screws.  Set ring cap screws to 15" to 18" lbs & base to 30" lbs.  Let Loctite cure over night and you should be good.   Good scope info reference site.

Just to add torque values are "dry".

If you add loctite or anything to threads values are / should be reduced.  So 15"lbs dry could be 12 with loctite.

Base screws I do crank down a bit on them  I've snapped bits . I thing they call for like 35+ inch lbs/ 3+ foot pounds on them.  Look up one piece mounting torque values...

What kind of screwdriver blade was that.  Somewhere in my reading, I found a vendor who said they made the screwdriver bits "weak" enough that they would fail before the screw broke?  Wheeler, I think but not sure.  Maybe that's why yours failed

Interesting because I've never had scope mount screws loosen after torquing without thread locker, only the scope slipping in two piece BKL mounts using insufficient 10 in/lbs top strap screw torque and the scope tube being damaged using 15 in/lbs torque, however I never had the mount screws loosen with use...........

With out going to look  most all mine take a #t15 torx's.

And one on the base screws takes a #t20 torx's

Heck I don't know , I just get them at random.

Off a job, Lowes, harbor freight, Walmart ,ECT.

But what were saying is if you use the torque screwdriver. That you set to the specific manufacturer torque value of the parts screw it's kinda goof proof.

So if the caps show 15 inch lbs you set the driver to it's 15 in lbs setting.  Just like the base say it calls for 35 inch lbs set the driver to 35 in lbs and when it makes that torque value the tool clicks and should not allow to tighten more then the set value you put it on .


My bits snap due to use  . Lots of righting and loosing stuff just I guess fatigue the metal

Like if you take a wire and bend it back and forth it will break in 1/2  sooner or later..


Anyway the cap screws I try to do right cause a oops could damage a scope.  The base I most time do by hand  ( I clamp down on its screws).  Not much damage to be done there and I yet to strip a base screw ( knock on wood).

A buddy handed me this about a month ago it ain't bad at all
