Got some iron sights and cooked up a sleeve with Picatinny rail that I can print and slide over the end of the shroud. A FedEx driver is out there with my Hp max, supposed to be dropped off some time later today.  I am ready… got a bunch of roundball thanks to manny’s tip, an extended shroud with metal cup baffles from Bin Tac and a screw on moderator from Rocker1 that I am printing some 357 baffles for.  Ordered several tins of jsb 81ms from trenier a while back but they must have been stolen from my mailbox because I never saw the package.   I can order another set of the JSB’s but I just hate spending that much money on pellets it’s like throwing good money after bad I guess and will just have to do some casting.  I can order a mold for the price of reordering these on top of the ash order.

I’ll see what I can do with round balls and my own bullets though I am sure  the accuracy won’t compare well with the JSBs.

I've started going back to open sights for my powder burners.  Both my AR's are set up like my service M-16.  Sadly, none of my air rifles have open sights.

When I see all the cool things you guys create with 3D printers I get tempted to give it a try.  What software are you using to design and what printer?

3-D printers just absolutely blow my mind. Truly feel like futuristic devices. I have the sovol sv-01. It has been unbelievably reliable and low maintenance from day one. I don’t think I’ve had a single failed print that was the printer’s fault. Using it for about two years I never expected that.  It has needed no adjustments at all and it’s been moved around to several different locations.  I am using the most basic of software: tinkercad. Not a full featured modeler by a longshot but it has just the features I need to design things like single shot trays, LDC cores, and various small parts.   I use Cura to convert the 3d models into instructions for the 3d printer.

Because this printer has worked so well I have not been forced to dive deep into tweaking and configuring and repairing these things, so my knowledge is limited.  You learn a lot more from a product with lots of flaws in it than from one that works perfectly

This was exactly my experience with my first SPA product, a Diana Bandit. It didn't perform well out of the box and took a lot of tinkering and repeated assembly and disassembly to get it working to my liking. I learned a lot about the platform, so I feel totally comfortable with it now. My AEA is built pretty much the same way, albeit with a threaded receiver instead of grub screws, so it was easy for me to take apart. On the other hand my Seneca Eagle Claw is totally different and I haven't done anything more than take the action out of the stock.

Okay I have something new to add.

First of all those round balls that were suggested here a while back are a tad large in diameter and the balls seem pretty hard  -  i had to tap with a rubber mallet to get the bolt all the way forward. These are the ballistic products #000 super buckshot and maybe the issue is the higher antimony content.



Second, I have somewhat tamed the noise.  Not backyard friendly but certainly “garage friendly”.

I got a 4” longer aea shroud and their baffles.  This alone changes the sound enough that it doesn’t sound like a report.  It’s a pretty loud “snap” instead of a bang.  This is good enough but it’s a little too loud for my preferences so I also have a rocker 1 LDC housing that can screw on the end and I put some 3d printed baffles in there.

I tried to get creative with the baffles since there’s not a whole lot of volume for baffles in a 1 inch in diameter tube with an 11 mm  bore.  Used the “Tesla diode” approach to direct air into colliding jets rather than simple baffles. With this on the end, it is fine for shooting indoor and by far the loudest sound and a the pellet impact.

I will probably just use the AEA shroud and baffles and remove the screw in attachment for typical use.

Hmmm strange, those .360 buckshots worked so well in so many .357s I had,.....wander what the true bore is in that MAX.

I could just open up the leade a bit if I’m using the correct word?  Maybe this is less open than the other models you shot. I’ve seen pretty noticeable differences in how tight it is on my 25 cals maybe I just got a gun with a tight leade. 

I can imagine doing it in a kind of rough way but I wouldn’t know what the ideal way is to widen the barrel a bit at the breech end .  I if knew a way to do this safely I would definitely go for it - want to be able to shoot the roundball if possible.

The only gun that didn't like that roundball was my DAQ but that was a 9mm

Here are the chrony results for nine shots I took.  Wasn’t quite full - maybe 4100 psi.  Got the Hp max back and all is good.


I will try backing off the hammer spring a bit to see if I can get a little curve at some lower peak power.

Every air rifle FX currently makes can convert easily to shoot arrows/air bolts with a kit they make.

Actually, I would love to see you speed that up a lot, see if you can outrun the magazine or if the magazine can throw a pellet into the path quicker than the gun can cycle?

You got the 8 lb jar of 000 buck? That’s what I got and they work great in my Evanix guns. But maybe the AEA barrel is a bit more snug. If you have to really force the side lever to get them into your gun I would avoid using them.

Thanks Manny. I might take you up on that but I’m really tempted to try to open up the breech end of the barrel a tad. 

Have a Dremel tool and lots of polishing pads and some red and green compound but I don’t have any real knowledge of how to NOT mess up the gun when doing this.  Same thing with polishing the crown.

Also curious - any tips for where the gun should be lubricated and what lube to use?  And of course which parts to keep ”dry”.
