Well other than the maga being .1” shorter than the slugs I ordered and it having a slow leak right out of the box, it seems to be fine…. It hurts to be on the bleeding edge, if that’s what this even is. Sending it back tomorrow.
I’m going to have to design and print a single-shot tray, I’m kind of used to single shot guns and l will probably use it without the magazine most of the time for now as I have a couple boxes of NSA slugs that are too large for the magazine, due to miscommunication from the vendor. Again thank goodness I didn’t buy a mold that casts longer slugs.
I am in the process of designing a single shot tray for this rifle and as I tinker with the 3-D printed prototype for it, I will try to come up with a solution for this problem that I can then adapt to the magazines. But- until I get there, I’d like your suggestions on what to try. It appears that the dimple in the magazines is rather small compared to the detent ball which measures 3 mm wide at the base, so I might start by widening/deepening the dimple.I’m pretty certain that I could simply add a layer of tape or epoxy to the mags to give them a tighter fit, but I’d like to find a solution that WORKS without creating a force fit. Here’s my starter SST. My friend is 3D printing some prototypes for me to tinker with:Here’s his CAD mock-up. I should have a prototype soon. The final design will NOT stick out as far on the right side as my wooden one. When I’m done testing & tweaking, I’ll have extras made to give to members here. Look for a thread on “SST for AEA Challenger” & post in it if you want to try a freebie.DrGunner
Thanks for the suggestion that looks great. I know you already said it works but just wanted to doublecheck it specifies on that link that it’s for 22 caliber. That is the same model you fit .357 in?
OK here’s a stupid question. For this particular gun, once the magazine is inserted the first bullet is pushed into the barrel because you have to cock the gun to insert the magazine. I’m trying to figure out a way to have the magazine loaded with 8 slugs but no rounds in the chamber. I don’t like the idea of a gun sitting with a slug in the barrel for a number of reasons. I guess leaving the first spot empty and filling the remaining 7 would accomplish this.
Thanks. I don’t think you can have an empty first chamber with these magazines. If you can I haven’t figured out how to do it. I don’t think there’s any way for me to hold it position with an empty chamber first. So I will either shoot the first round or wait to insert the magazine until I’m ready to shoot. You can decock the gun with a pellet in the barrel because but when you re-cock it it will then double feed.
Yep. Simple enough to load once you understand the mechanism. I’m actually loving this thing. Got some of the kinks worked out, I’m going to be able to get some parts for it from AEA (long shroud, different weight springs, baffles). It’s nice that they included a well vented front barrel bushing. Shroud comes off like butter so instead of buying a moderator for the muzzle I’m going to have one plain short shroud and one extended shroud with baffles that I can swap in if needed. I took off the AR stock - not crazy about those in general - and am using it like a pistol, two handed in various forms. This is A LOT of fun, feels futuristic, overpowered and oversized. Duke Nukem’s first toy gun. my early “jumping to conclusions” opinion, based on tinkering and a few shots in the garage, is that this thing is EXACTLY what I was looking for at the start of the pandemic when I got my first pcp (a talon p). That thing was one of the best purchases I’ve ever made because it led to so much tinkering and modification, and it was powerful and obnoxious but fun to shoot. My MP mold arrived - first brass mold. Those bullets should fit perfectly in the magazines.
