Sort of stuck just reading about other's experiences with their particular specimen of the beautiful Benjamin 392, since I'm unable to pump up my new 392S given my recent shoulder surgery. One commenter in an older thread discussing steroiding, advised checking for accuracy before steroiding as sterioding wouldn't improve poor accuracy. Others speak of stacking pellets at 10 yards right out of the box. All good reading to me, but makes me hope I bought a good shooting specimen several weeks back. Too late now if I didn't though because I'll be beyond return window if there's an issue.
So. What is good and what's great accuracy with a stock 392? 3/8 inch at 20 yards? 1 inch at 35 yards? What are others finding?
If a particular specimen doesn't show accuracy you like what can be done to try to improve results? I already understand experimenting with different weight and style pellets, and trying different numbers of pumps. I myself have experienced finding the sweet spot of pump number on my vintage 347 in .177. I brought the groups, with open sights, down from 1 1/4 inch at 20 yards to about 1/2 inch by dropping from 7 pumps to 5. That's my 347 sweet spot with .177 RWS Superdomes.
On a powder burner there is bore lapping, glass bedding, specific torque settings for bedding screws, pillar bedding, free floating barrels, etc. But what if any options are there for a wayward 392?
Thanks. Don

Main issue with newer 392s is spray paint over spray in the muzzle, clean out with solvent, before ever shooting a pellet.

I was surprised how much overspray was present in the muzzle of my new 392S. It took several minutes of an acetone soaked Q-tip , rubbing firmly to remove the paint which went back maybe 1/2 an inch into the barrel. Very good point. Thanks. Don
