Cometa Lynx, initial impressions

Realising that another thread on the Lynx already exists, I still thought to share my experiences with the rifle.
If this is not OK, I'll ask the moderators to move this post to the appropriate location.

I'll try adding pics once I have the time to take them. Please take all this with a grain of salt since this is my first pcp airgun.

I ordered the gun from http://www.carabinasypistolas.com/?lang=en, and the service was both professional and fast.

When opening the box, the first thought was that this is a BIG gun. No child's toys here. Despite the size it seems to handle well, an I have no qualms about the balance. The workmanship is good. Granted, no fancy custom work, but all very clean and functional.

The rifle comes with two hex wrenches, a spare hammer spring and a quick-connect adapter for filling the bottle. I have not weighed the spring to see if it's any different from the stock, but shall do that as well. Also  a user's manual (in Spanish  ) and a schematic drawing of the parts.

Living in suburbia, I cannot really risk shooting in my backyard, so it will be a while 'til I get to do proper test shooting. The 25 ft indoor range in my basement is still enough to get a feel of the gun, and do some speed testing with a chrono a friend graciously let me borrow.

The cocking sidelever has a bit of play vertically, and does not feel as solid as the other parts of the rifle. But wether or not this is a real problem remains to be seen.

It seems to be a known fact that the trigger, in it's stock setting, is nothing to write home about. Being a two-stage model, the first stage could be best described as long and nondescript. As opposed to this the second stage is long and nondescript. This all is smooth, however, and the final break is quite clean. I'm certain this can be worked on, and I'll try my best to do so.

Out of the box, the 15.8 gr JSB Extra Jumbos chronoed 670 fps, giving very close to the legal maximum power of 24 joules in Spain. Again, the power adjustment is another detail I'll be working on. Instructions for a simple power mod could be found from the Spanish airgun forum. The shroud does a good job in moderating the muzzle blast, but whisper quiet it does not the gun make. However, udging the sound indoors is probably not the ideal way of doing this. It would be possible to add a couple of baffles inside the shroud in front of the barrell, yet another potential project on this gun.

thanks for the initial review. I've been interested in this rifle, and trying to save my pennies for one, so I'm always looking for whatever I can learn about it. While I'm not 100% certain about it, so far it seems a good rifle. Maybe it will improve with subsequent releases, and issues like that wobbly cocking lever and trigger will be addressed. Keep us posted!

Hi Slow- welcome to Lynx country- as stated on the other thread, I love mine, even after I had a few minor issues-but bottem line is to get a WELL regulated gun(50-60 good shots) and have pinpoint accuracy for the price is awesome and you can adjust the trigger somewhat(but good luck with what they use for lock-tite) had to use a heat gun to break loose my rear adjuster LOL-but once you get used to the long 1st stage(non-existant) my let-off is probably 6 ounces.The highest speed i could attain was 880 with Jsb 15.9 but that is the most accurate area for those weight pellets(i have mine set for 850) which is perfect

I shot be4meliz's rifle.. I took it out to 250 yards.. had a *(&^ of a time but scored a couple hits. I was destroying paint balls at 40 yards.. so accurate.

Visited a friend's farm, and managed to shoot a couple of pellets.




FX 6-18*44 scope.




I'm told that vertical spread is from the gun, horizontal from the shooter. Easy enough to draw conclusions here    Still, eight shots 3/4" ctc, just about 30 yds.

Certainly a keeper. More work to be done on the trigger, and especially on my shooting skills.
