Some Thoughts on My 392s

This is a first for me lol. I started shooting right off with 10 pumps and was amazed how easy the pumping was compared to the old wood stock 392.... I guess a benefit of the extended pump arm.

Crosman 14.3 gr. Domes were stacking right off with no retained air.
My 20.2 gr. NOE pellets began to stack after about 5 shots following the crosman’s.

At about 30 shots the pump arm would’nt stay closed... I thought it had blown a seal.
I opened the pump arm and the darn billet arm was bent in a “s shape” for about 5/8” right in the center between the 2 screws that hold it to the pump arm .

I know I was’nt bending the pump arm while pumping as this is not my first 392. I was pumping straight across my chest in the normal fashion.
The wood stocks have a channel that supports the billet arm on the sides all the way down.
I noticed the synthetic stock only has side to side guides in only a few places spaced out for the billet arm.
Hhhhhhmmmm!

I think the synthetic model could benefit from a Mac1 billet and pump linkage.
This one is going back to seller though. .

It will still pump and hold air, but I have to hold the pump arm closed to fire it, so the seals are good?

Bummer! I've not pumped mine to 10 more than a handful of times, hope this is not something I'll be experiencing as well! Like Bill I usually only go for a few pumps and even when I was testing for grouping I was only going up to 8 pumps max.

Checked both gun's linkage... no signs of distortion in either.

Pumping to 10 was easy peazy on the 392s compared to my 392 and 397 wood stocked guns.
Guess that’s the advantage of the extended pump arm.

The scopes I use in them have lines and circles below the crosshairs for drop compensation.
Usually I sight the crosshairs In on 10 pumps, then the next line down is 8 pumps next is 6 pumps and the next down is usually dead on for 4 or 5 pumps.
That way I pump what I want and just use the appropriate drop line.

Most of my target shooting is on 4 to 6 pumps, but hunting and distance shooting sees a lot of 8 to 10 pumps on the stock guns and as much as 12 to 14 pumps on the steroid 392.

This should’nt have happened as the 392s is rated for 10 pumps max.
I cleaned the bbl., but something could have been in the pump tube that got into the valve and caused some pumping pressure?
I never felt any undue pressure when pumping it though?
May have been a billet arm that was’nt tempered right? If they even temper them at all.
I don’t have a clue... just know it was a new gun and on shot no. 30 it went kaput!

I went with piramyd air on this one just because of the 60 day return policy... I “think” i’m glad I did.

Btw, this is the first 392 i’ve ever had that the front sight on straight... that really burns me as I had high hopes for this one.

Well after 12 days in UPS 's hands it looks like my 392 from Crosman is arriving on Monday, I'm very, very leary as last time the package was broken into and stuff was stolen, we will see this time.

I tried to call Crosman on Friday but customer service was closed, I left two messages.

I will use the returned funds to get another 392 and then wait for the 362 guns to be available  !!!

I will report my fate on Monday about my arriving of the 392 !!

I installed the Air Venturi weaver rail on my 392.
Oriented the cantilever to the rear initially, but found that reversing it afforded acceptable bolt cocking clearance.
The first scope I grabbed is a Ruger 4x32, mounted with some .8" high rings.
Maybe not my ultimate setup, but for now it works.

Well it arrives today in the shipping box and nothing was broken YAHOO .... Now waiting on refund from Crosman on the other package that was very badly damaged.

I'm glad my package arrived for sure !

Congrats on receiving your new one Will. Just sent mine back to Piramyd for a replacement.
I explained clearly and honestly on the phone just how it happened and they sent a return shipping label straight to my phone... no questions asked.

Guess it will be at least a couple of weeks before I get a new one back .

Also ordered a couple #64 peep sights, they will be back up sights if the scope should fall off and fall into the river :-)

I also received my 24 gr .2193 slugs from AVS. According to my mic I'm at .2192 ---- pretty darn close :- )

Will test for groups tomorrow at 17.5 yards. At that range I can get an idea of how these will shoot in my gun, so far slugs have been a real bust :-  )

I tried one on Betty Lou's 392s and I'm glad I did before they came in stock... It didn't work out for me... that comb is just too high. I also couldn't lower the sight enough to get on target. I find the 3 pc. weaver rail and a 4x32 AO scope to be a much better setup. The guns are still light weight and I can grip the scope right at the front ring to pump. The front ring is just above the front rail mount and don't put any unwanted force on anything. Great little paintball and paper gamers. 5 pumps is plenty to take out any pest in our yard.

Thought about it, put in cart, removed from cart, the usual, etc. then realized my gun might actually be Too accurate for peeps in my case. And so I remain with a 3-12x32 compact-scoped 392S.

I’ve got the same problem with the high comb and the iron sights.
Out of curiosity, how high was it shooting with the peep sight for you and at what range?

2" in 20yds. maybe? But the bigger issue was, I had to put that comb way up my cheek.. almost right under my eye.

Thanks... looks like it will be a no go for me too.
I wanted the raised comb for scope use anyway, but it’s nice to have the irons sighted in for back up... oh well.

Just to be fair... I didn't even try to use the open sight. I don't know if it will raise high enough to be used. I knocked the one off of my gun right out of the box and never attempted to adjust the one on Betty Lou's.... that one will get knocked off as well.

Bill, I would like to knock off my rear sight as well, but is there a technique so's I don't bugger up my gun? Plus would give more space for my off-hand while pumping too, I think.

yep.... rubber mallet and a block of wood. Put the wood against the muzzle end of the sight and knock it down towards the breech with the butt of the gun on the floor. Watch to make sure it is slipping off the plastic spacers. The rubber mallet is to protect the barrel in case you accidentally tag it.... EZ PZ.
