I'm thinking about getting a second PCP. I have a Marauder .22 that I really like. I was seriously considering a FX Royale 400 .177 and had talked myself into the $1749, until I saw that an extra three mags would cost me another $270!!! That was kind of a deal breaker.

What I'm looking for:

- extremely accurate
- .177
- 20 foot pounds or less
- 800 - 900 fps with normal to heavy pellets, not supersonic
- nice wood stock, would like a thumbhole
- primarily for target shooting
- high good shot count, regulated?
- pump-able
- as quiet as possible, but not through any means that would make it an issue to bring it to a club.

AA s410 or s510, BSA Scorpion SE, Ultra or R10, Weichrauch HW100 just to mention a few. All very accurate, can be had in 12fpe versions meaning about 850 fps with normal pellets and about 1 pump/shot. I'm leaning towards the Scorpy SE myself. Aftermarket regulators are available for Air Arms and BSA should you feel the need for one.

Thanks for the feedback. Here's my thoughts:

The HW100 has thumbhole stock, but I haven't seen anything on 12 fpe versions. Does it have adjustable power?How's the trigger?

The 410 looks good with the thumbhole version and the variable power. How do they compare to the Marauder and Royale 400 for accuracy? They don't give shot counts for the .177, but I guess 60-80 based on the .22 numbers. Is that about right? How's the trigger?

I don't see a thumbhole .177 510. I see a .22 thumbhole 510. The only .177 510 I see is the poplar stock version.

The BSA Scorpion is rated as pretty loud.

AAs used to rule FT before the specialized FT guns appeared and they do have LW barrels. The trigger is said to be match quality, comparable to Anschutz target rifles according to a mate of mine.

BSAs as is are a bit loud but barrels are 1/2" UNF threaded so you can install a LDC/muzzle brake (whatever you want to call it) which makes it more neighborhood friendly than normal shrouded guns. The Scorpion SE has improved valve system for reduced air usage (30% less air used) and they do ~15fps variation over 60 shots in chrony strings I've seen. The new magazine system is also excellent.

I don't have much knowledge about Weichrauch as that's over my budget but there's a UK version at 12fpe.

I forgot to say there's also Gamo Dynamax which is a bargain for what's basically a BSA Lonestar. It's with the older magazine and you'd need Ultra spring and transfer port to tune it down to 12 fpe but one option more for sure.

I don't see a thumbhole .177 510. I see a .22 thumbhole 510. The only .177 510 I see is the poplar stock version.

I researched the HW100, the S410, and the S510 and found that the HW100 has a thumbhole stock .177, but it has a low shot count, shoots at 22 fpe, and doesn't have a power adjuster. The S410 and S510 have a power adjuster and have a thumbhole stock, but don't offer the thumbhole stock in a .177.

If have any of this wrong, please let me know.

Get a Discovery, then add a muzzle break. plenty of cash left over to get a new stock. Quiet, powerful, accurate

I think my requirement of being able to take it anywhere without issue rules out the muzzle break. I have considered getting a .177 Marauder and adding a regulator and/or a HDD and having a customer stock made.

Anyone know of a stock maker for the Marauder that makes a nice thumhole stock that isn't a unique work of art like those from Paul Bishop? I want a nice stock, but don't need a work of art.

I like my Lynx... You can regulate, accurate, looks good, lots-a shots, can change up barrels (when they finally arrive...)...

I sent them an email. They said couldn't get me a S510 thumbhole .177. Thanks for the thought though.

I just noticed that Pyramyd is now selling a FX 2000 Hunter. Is this the first of many FX guns or just an anomaly?

The FX Royale is extremely nice but on the spendy side of things. I have always had a hankering for the AA510 superlight in 177. Unfortunately it doesn't get the number of shots that you are looking for, only around 30-40 if I remember correctly. But, everyone who has one seems to like them a lot.

When I google for that I get a lot of hits from UK sites and stores, but not nothing for the US. Is that a UK only model? Does it have another name in the US? I see a bunch of AA 510 carbines listed on Pyramyd, but none by that name.

You can get AAS410 thumbhole version in .177 from BAR http://www.airgunbuyer.com/ That's the 12 fpe version that gives you some 80 shots / fill.

Yes, the Superlight is the carbine version of the AAS510. I have heard it referred to as the "Superlight" and it stuck with me. I think the name "Superlight" is printed on the breech. Maybe someone on here has one!

I'm leaning towards the AA 510 thumbhole right now. One of the last issues I'm looking into is noise level. Pyramyd lists the Marauder as 85db and the 510 as 101db. I've started the process of checking with TKO for a brake or shroud extension. Anyone added onto a 510 to get it down to same level of quietness as a Marauder?

In another slight change in plans if I get the 510 in .22 and it works out, I think I'll change the Marauder over to .177 instead of getting the 510 in .177.

The shroud in 510 is quite slim really so it's not that efficient due to the small volume. That's why people in UK usually add the S-thing to the end of the shroud. There are .177 thunbhole versions of 510 around, I've seen a few used ones.

What Richard said. I also find the Lynx to be a respectable gun. The regulator makes it very consistent.
This would leave you enough for a quality scope, considering the budget you mentioned in the first post.
