Shooting Rests, Sniper Styx

My very first shooting rest was one I put together using an antique camera tri-pod. I made a wood support and installed a threaded insert then mounted it on the tri-pod. My second rest was the Predator Sniper Styx and both these I would use sitting on hill side terrain. The Predators were very good for panning the rifle.
The Stoney Point Bi-pod and Tri-Pod I would use in flatter terrain as I would be standing/moving more.

I have another Camera tri-pod (Heavy Bogen) that supports rifle and a camera. Much to bulky for squirrel hunting...more for turkey.

I built this one from a camera tripod I picked up from Goodwill, my son-in-law confiscated it from me shortly after.

Fun making your own shooting gear...I once made all my FT gear...straps, knee riser etc...just spent time rumaging around in Home Depot..no snaps, buttons...just velcro.

I’ve been down that rabbit hole a few times. I ended up with a Primos Tripod Trigger Stick and it’s da bomb. I do a lot of hunting and it is SO fast to engage the target on any terrain.

Doesn't anyone shoot the "old fashioned" way...from the shoulder, standing or sitting, with no crutches, bags, supports, mono-pods, bi-pods, etc. anymore ?

I don't believe that it's because we can't, I believe it's because those of us who hunt want to make an ethical kill shot, and not have to make a follow-up shot to finish the job. I still practice off-hand shots, just prefer to use the support. It's also the reason I prefer lighter-weight rifles because they are easier for me to keep steady. Plus for me at 66 and handicapped if we go to war and the US is relying on me, we're in deep dodo.

I would like to see you hit a quarter at 35 yards every shot your way... also have you tried it with the heavier rifles... like a Mrod or At44 Long...

Shooting spinners, starling, ground squirrel etc..is NOT WAR, it's fun. Don't mix up military, war and FUN.

I like the shooting sticks rubber cradle and I will be copying you, Thanks.

I made these using barbed wire, out in the field shooting GS, one day when I forgot to bring shooting sticks. Since modified to have a proper hinge from 3/4" steel tubing. Filbert wood trimmings from the orchard. They are quite and no clinking or clanking.

Good idea...you might try piece from an bike intertube. I also have this "Little Sure Shot" that is handy sometimes with some imagination.
