Thanks John!  The thought of shooting slugs is exciting, but in a practical sense, I don't really have anything I need to shoot slugs at!  I mainly push paper and ravage rats, and the 15.89gr and 18.13gr JSBs do an amazing job at that.  So, I'm going to play with the sample slugs I have, figure out what shoots best, and then will probably set it up for accuracy shooting the the lighter weight pellets since they are more economical and more suited or what I typically shoot.  I'm hoping to find a nice reg pressure that will allow me to shoot both pellets and slugs with decent accuracy and only have to use the power wheel to switch between the two.  I may end up being a pipe dream, but for now, that's the goal!

150 bar seems to be a good place to shoot everything with factory reg. And you may get by with 140 bar with a Huma.

So, a question for John and Randy about the Huma Regulator...  How accurate are the set points on the regulator itself?  Seems I've been chasing reg pressure all over the place with the Huben regulator and getting very inconsistent velocities from one shot to the next.  I have tried 100 BAR, 110 BAR, 130 BAR and 150 BAR.  All have inconstant velocities from one shot to the next.  Just curious if I set the Huma to 120 BAR based on the scale on the regulator itself, will the gauge actually show 120 BAR?  It would almost be a blessing to set it one time and not have to mess with anything but the power wheel to move from lighter pellets to heavier pellet, then even to slugs!

All of the Huma regs I've played with tend to be pretty close to the scale.  I think the worse case I've had was maybe 10-15 bar off, tops.  Most have been darn near spot on.

Thanks Donny!  The Huma should arrive today or tomorrow, it arrived at the UPS Hub in Pensacola this morning!  Amazing how Huma can ship from the Netherlands to Florida in 2-3 days and it takes stateside vendors a week or more to ship here, even if they are only a couple states away.  And everyone blames the pandemic because overseas shipments can't get through!  Well, Huma sure figured it out!  LOL!

I tried Gregor's tip on reconfiguring the Bellville washer stack to a 2 on 2 configuration instead of 3 on 3 configuration.  I couldn't get it to work, there wasn't enough room on the shaft for all the washers, so it was 2 short to get it back together.  This created a situation where I don't think the regulator was strong enough to control the air pressure from the cylinder.  I was getting a blast of air in the face from every shot, and it went from 300 BAR to 100 BAR in one magazine!  I put it back to the 3 on 3 configuration and that fixed that problem, but I'm still seeing a lot of inconsistency in velocity from one shot to the next.  I have tried the 100 BAR setup Gregor recommended for pellets, then increased 10 BAR per session to see if I could find the right balance between the regulator and power wheel to get more consistent shots at around the 950 fps point.  I finally stopped at 130 BAR and gave up.  I'm still seeing differences of over 50 FPS between shots!  I sure hope the Huma regulator will fix this!

I've installed several Huma regs in various guns and they have been very close to scale as marked on them. I just did a Huben for a friend and it is off about 10 according gauge on gun. Huma scale shows 140 and gauge reads 150. So not sure if its the reg or gauge that is off but once set it don't matter. I have mine at 110 and it reads exactly 110 on gauge. I think 120 would be a good set and forget setting if you are going to shoot 18 and 25 gr pellets.  I actually had mine set at 120 when I first installed it with no issues but I like to tinker and wanted to see how it performed at 110 so I changed it. Works great so I just left it there.

Thanks Randy, that's good to know!  I plan on setting it to 120 BAR and seeing how it goes.  Hopefully, it will be the sweet spot and I'll get more insistent shot strings!  Thanks again for your help!

Quite honestly, I really don't care to be adjusting the regulator too much anyway.  I have a few regulated airguns that don't have externally adjustable regulators, and once I set them up to where I like them, I never touch the regulator again.  Even my FX rifle, that have an adjustable regulator, don't get adjusted once I have them set up, so losing the adjustability of the regulator isn't that big a deal to me!

Just an aside, mine came at 135BAR (I may have mentioned it in a PM) and I think yours came set at 110BAR ready for 14.3gr pellets or still had some in the mag, correct? And with the testing you just did, you stopped at 130BAR?

So I'm wondering what you might find if you went up 5 more BAR...not saying mine will shoot more consistent as I have not gone there yet, but just a thought in the meantime.

Another one interesting fact that might explain a lot with the inconsistencies I’m seeing compared to yours. Apparently Huben came out with a new reg design for 2020.  Per Kelly mine is a Jan 2020 build, and the new regulator has a red dot on it. Mine doesn’t. So, I’m assuming the new regulator was introduced after January 2020.   I’ll have to find the video and post it, but apparently, the new model regulator is supposed to fix the inconsistency issues.

To answer your question, yes, it did come set at 110 BAR and still had a few CPHP’s in the magazine. I did find this odd because I had asked that it be set up to shoot 18.13 grain JSB’s!  Maybe he confused my order with another. As far as going higher than 130 BAR, I’d raise it to 150 BAR to try some slugs, but then lowered it again.

The Huma Reg is out for delivery, so I should have it later tonight. I’m going to set the regulator to 120 BAR, then shoot it down to around 120 BAR before I break it down and install the Huma regulator. After the install, I’ll do another shot string to see how many shots I get before I hit 120 BAR and see if the consistency improves.

Highly interesting video, thanks, his orig reg seemed pretty steady as it was but then he did say it was after a thousand shots or something - but we don't know if he was adjusting the reg at all during that original 1000 shot break-in period, he never mentioned it

He also mentioned that he had added a couple washers to the original to increase the pressure.

The Huma reg was delivered tonight. I set it to 120 BAR and hope to get it installed tomorrow.

It's fast becoming one of my favorites too!  I just need to sort out the current inconsistent velocity issue.  I will say I have quickly become spoiled by the semi-auto action of this rifle.  I was shooting one of my side levers the other day, would take a shot, line up the next, squeeze the trigger and then wonder why nothing happened!!!

I installed the Huma Regulator today.  Thus far, it doesn't seem much different, but it's a brand new regulator, so I guess time will tell.  Before the install I ran two full magazines through it.  Here's the before chrony numbers:

The top picture below is the groups, shot in 5 shot groups.

The tear down and install was pretty easy.  I did a combo of Gregor's and Kelly's instructions, so I turned the power wheel all the way to zero (17 clicks), then removed the power wheel.  I then removed the back plate off the breech, pulled the spring, replaced the back cover and squeezed the trigger.  It took about 5 minutes for all the air to drain from the air cylinder.  I pushed out the pin holding the stock, remobved it, then remove the front barrel band.  I removed the small bolt from the linkage ar the rear of the rifle, removed the 3 screws securing the trigger and scope rail and slid it off.  This it was just a matter of removing the one screw securing the air cylinder to the breech, give it a 45% turn and slid it out.  From there, I just unscrewed the front and rear parts of the tube, removed the Huben Reg and replaced it with the Huma reg!  Examining the Huben regulator, I was able to confirm it was the older version. 

Reassembly was just as easy, just reverse the process.  Once it was all back together, I filled it with air and apparently killed my Benjamin Recharge compressor in the process!  It wouldn't fill past 3300 psi without going into a death wobble!  Trying to top it off to 300 BAR with my Benjamin Traveler caused it to shut down do to it pulling more than 30 amps!  It took letting it cool and starting over to get it to 300 BAR.  Once filled I did another 2 full magazines over the chrony.  The second picture below if the groups after the Huma reg was installed.  Here's the after shot string over the chrony:

I do want to give a shout out to Randy for his help!  I screwed up and shot 5 shots without flipping that little lever down.  This cause the Huben to dump about 200 BAR of air and jammed the magazine up solid!  I was able to get working again, and all seems fine now, it's just hard to shoot when you don't have a reliable way of filling it!  In any event, had a great visit with Randy, and I sure do appreciate his support!
