Air Compressor

Lets just say that it looks like I am going to need to get a larger compressor to fill my two tanks(100cc, and 74 cuft), what would be a good one to get that will meet the needs of filling to 4500psi. I am not looking for the Rolls Royce model but one that is decent for the money spent and will hold up? Give me an idea of what I am looking at so I can figure out the money needed. yong heng will do you well. You should still plan on buying support equipment for your compressor though.
added filters, cooling etc.
I probably spent as much if not more on added support gear than I did on the compressor itself.

If you're handy and are willing to spend some coin, I would suggest a used Bauer Jr., Alpha Carette, HPDAVV or the new Tuxing that Knife just purchased....these are scuba breathable air units. I know a shop that has been using a full sized Bauer for years filling PCP tanks...still going strong...costly but worth it if you can afford it! Otherwise like said above, a REAL Yong Heng!

Three years on my YH and still working good, I use an additional moisture trap and an additional fan for cooling. Top off my 45min scba tank a couple times a month.

our hobby doesn't need breathable air. Just dry air. In case he doesn't know.
I have no idea on the cost of the other units but I'd guess you could buy 2 or 3 YH's for the cost of one of those?
They are all great options though, if you really have the coin, just get a nitrogen setup lol

My suggestion...
Do a little research on filling tanks as opposed to filling guns directly.

Believe it or not, you waste a lot of time and energy filling tanks, along with a lot of waste.

When I first got into the PCP realm many years ago, SCBA tanks were really the only feasible way to charge a PCP gun.

I spent a LOT of money on tanks and adapters. Along with hydros and fills, etc. I had a collection of 8 full size extended SCBA tanks that I bought. I also had a dive shop on my way to work that would fill them past 3500 psi.

Long story short, they went out of business, and I was forced to either buy a compressor like a Nardi or something else to fill them. Not practical. Also some of the fittings and DIN adapters were wearing out with use. Those cost money to replace too. Since the 8 tanks had expired hydros, I wasn't going to sell them and have one of them explode and kill someone, so I pierced them and trashed them for scrap.

In turn, I bought a few Chinese electric pumps, a EC3000, 2 Hill pumps and a few Chinese hand pumps. What's funny --- I've never had a problem with any of them! Come to think of it -- redundancy, redundancy.

I've had instances where I had a leaky valve empty a fully charged SCBA tank on me. Imagine how I felt?!

Moral of the story: If I was to get into PCP guns now, I would not even think about getting SCBA apparatus!

Very timely thread!  I just bought and filled an expired carbon fiber scba tank and after degassing the DAR .25 this morning, I found that the poppet came off the seat at about 15 bar. I doubt the compressor or hand pump could get me past that seating issue alone.

I for one vote for all three, each has its own place as far as I am concerned.

Persistence has paid of and I have found a shop that will fill to 4500 on both tanks for 15, although its about a hour and a half round trip it will get me out of the house and there are several places on the the way back I will stop at so it's not a complete waste. I am still going to look into a bigger compressor but will wait on it. Thanks for everyone's input on the subject. Terry

I think you made the right choice. Air independence is awesome but don't forget... dependence is part of that word. Once you build your PCP arsenal, a compressor failure will be devastating... or at least seem so.
If y'all read through these threads on compressors you'll get a mixed bag of what's acceptable and what's not.
What I seem to have noticed is that the folks who say they use these single cylinder Chinese compressors to fill tanks with no issues wouldn't have a problem going out and buying a replacement. Many of us don't have the luxury of expendable income. Many of us have to budget what we have just to enjoy our passion of airguns.
I mean, if I had unlimited resources I'd be shooting $2k guns filled with a couple $1k GW tanks that I fill with a $3k compressor. I'm just not there so I have to do what I can with what I can afford. So, when a manufacture suggests I limit my use of their product to filling guns only, I tend to follow those recommendations.
Impulse buying has landed me smack in the middle of a PILE of guns that quite honestly are barely worth the cost of packing up and shipping. Impulse buying is the reason I'm not shooting $2k guns filled with a couple $1k GW tanks that I fill with a $3k compressor..
