Man I like this gun,,but as other have said ,no way to sight with that cheek rest as high as it is....good thing I didnt sell my Baker mount...lol...now to find a suitable scope among my spares....as I said really like the platform..but be warned ...iron sights aint happen...who knows maybe a peep...

You would think Crosman would correct the issue with the stock. It's not like this hasn't been discussed before. Sounds like bad engineering.

Well I put a Tasco variable on it ..using 1” rings....I’m thinking BugBuster for permanent....for me its a beast at 4 pumps...but its a tack driver...if I do my part...lol

No, its likely what crosman's marketing department thinks the consumer wants. Remember!!! This forum (and all other AG forums) are a drop in the bucket for for sales and little effect for what gets developed and "put on the shelves" (although there are some exceptions).

Crosman Marketing thinks thats what the shooters want, so they developed it. Theyve also kept some guns (MAV77) OFF the shelves cuz they think no one would buy at Walmart

well ,if its any consolation ...I talked to Crosman several times this week and I dont know how many are in the hobby...but they voiced concerns over the discontinue of the wood stock ....

HEHE they ARE likley getting ear-fulls from people anyway.

Seems to me Crosman though, could have the kept wood stock model AND offered the synthetic too. Or offered the wood stock as a CS offereing (if /when CS gets up and runnign agian..)

They offer the 397/392 in two calibers, so why not two stocking options?

What exactly do you suspect Crosman's marketing dept thinks consumers want?
Hard to believe that more people would prefer synthetic over wood on a classic pumper. Especially a synthetic that is shaped wrong for the open sights.

If it was a nice long lasting polymer stock, I would be in for a new 397, I like my 2013 wood model, but the pistol grip is a little slippery. A nice slimline synthetic would be nice, but not being able to use the sights? give me a break.

Makes me wonder why in the heck they didn't just put a scope rail on it while they were in the think tank, maybe they do not have a think tank or logic to put in it sometimes $:-\$

It is bad engineering.
If you read the post you would see this is not a matter of marketing or wood vs plastic or what they think people want.
It is most certainly a matter of bad engineering.
They failed to properly design a stock that actually works with the iron sights the gun is designed to be shot with.

They came up with a stock they believed people would think is cool and didn't realize you can't even really use the gun anymore.
They probably didn't test it because they figured " it's the same gun, we already know how they shoot ".

Many utube reviews mention the sights, but also say how accurate the gun is with iron....for me I absolutely could not get a good fit to use....as most know u have to scope..to make gun useable....I dont know that even a set of peeps would work...

Guess they figure the package deal with scope/mount included would suffice...lol

I will add this with a regular length scope mounted....having to grab the pistol grip to pump gun is a pain...almost begs for the sitting down “position”....

That's the beauty of a scout scope mount. Doesn't interfere with pumping.

Agreed and I did do that with the 392 Wood I just put back together...but these old eyes really need conventional....or a more powerful pistol scope....I saw a advertised scout scope I believe was variable listed for $200...

I have 4x pistol scopes on a couple pumpers & a 2.5 BSA on another. But like Phil, I'm gonna need to up the magnification.
UTG has a 1", 2-7x32 pistol scope for around $130.00+/-, & a 30mm, 2-7x44 scout scope for $200.00+/-. BSA 2-7x28 pistol scope for about $85.00, just name a few.

Thanks for that somehow overlooked...PA has a couple...

I have a shot gun scope..makes handling little easier...guess I will order a mac1 and new scope and go scout...
Just installed this...dont remember what power...but on the money at 40 feet....does make handling a little better..

Again, back to who buys these.... WE on the forums know what a classic gun is. Buyers shopping at Walmart, Basspro etc likley dont. And those businesses sell a LOT of guns for Crosman. And Again, forum members are a drop in the bucket sales-wise. HAve talked to a couple of folks inside Crosman about this awhile back (thats where I got the MAV77 info...) but ABSOLUTLEY agree about the scope rails. Now THAT is a mistake.

You're missing the point.
A useless stock is a useless stock, regardless of who they intend to market these to.
