What wood is this please?

I had this set of red wood grips on a used 2240 I bought quite a while ago, and never thought about asking the seller what wood they were made from. The grain is very fine and not ''open'', and it's pretty hard too. Anyone has an idea?

Sorry I can't answer your question, but I just wanted to say I like the red stain on those grips.  Very sharp!

Thank you Randy, but this is the actual colour of the wood, not a stain. Look at the sanding dust beside the grip, it actually stained the paper sheet on which I put it for the pic! Don't think this wood is from North America.

Padauk is a relatively common ‘exotic’ used by makers here in the United States.

Not 100% that’s what you have there, but likely.

Your welcome. Satine is commonly used for pen blanks, knife scales, wood turning, marquetry, and inlay.

Update:

I finished re-shaping and rough sanding the satine wood grips, this project is looking good! I was already working on a set of american walnut grip set for my 1740, so the blood wood grips just embarked the ride . I already applied 4 coats of Minwax Antique Oil, need to put a few more to really fill that grain.

Blood wood is pretty easy to work for a hard wood, much easier than birch wood . It sands and polish very well, it has kind of a ''wax like'' texture. It, however, is THIRSTY, it absorbs oil like a sponge.  I'm sure well sharpened carving knives can do a beautiful job in this wood. The grain of this wood reminds me of maple, just deep red instead.

This is funny, these grips will be the start of a project, I didn't expect that . I just found them in my parts bin, thought that would be nice to re-finish them, and now I wanna build a gun based on them LOL! I'm seeing a stock barrel with custom iron sights, and re-worked valve for shot count, along with some trigger improvement. Could be a nice contender for my 150  .
