392 reassembly problems...

Ive done this before and it was easy...lol....Ok so I went to put a new valve in what I believe is a 2014 392...problem was I had to drive the valve out....I could see no burrs .....the new valve had to be persuaded in...needless to say I buggered both the valve and the lug..new parts no problem....but why the bind what am I missing....When I got the old valve out the orings had no nicks...nither did the new one when I had to remove it....TIA

It’s binding at the point where the lug goes in...pretty much slides free from back up to that point...I pulled the cup assembly and came down from the front and again stops right at lug area...silicon grease did no good ...can I sand that area (if I can get to it) with out compromising holding air...

I have an early 397PA ("P" style trigger but has the removable valve).  That valve will not come out without some coercion from a dowel tapped by a hammer.  Like yours, no damage to o-rings, so I'm thinking no burrs.  I wondered if the pump tube is slightly out of round, but if it is, it's not enough to cause any blow-by when pumping.  It pumps up strong, and is VERY accurate, with almost any pellet.

Yeah I rebuilt my brothers ,same year gun as mine....the valve slipped in/out no problem...its definitely binding...took the o-rings off and valve still would not move pass the lug area...I read where it might be the stamping on the tube...now that I know what problem is..just have to figure a way to get valve in and lug hole lined up..thanks for the reply...never really liked the gun,so if I cant fix,no biggie to scrap...

My 392 is also a 2014 model and the tube is visibly out of round due to the stamping of the text onto the side. The valve is tight (even without o-rings) through the stamped area only.  Maybe this is why the later production had text that wasn't stamped (silkscreened?).

That IS strange.  I've rebuilt probably 30 different models all the way back to the Streaks.  Never had this issue with the cartridge valve guns, a la Crosman manufactured. 

Make sure the bolt assembly is removed.  The cocking lug falls below and will cause valve removal woes.

Yes I removed the bolt to do away with the baker scope mount...glad u never ran into the problem...may take a better talent than me to fix it...lol
