Kicking around what the next couple of guns I should think about getting P Rod is on the short list would love to here why I should consider one , or something in the same format. Short and compact with punch. Mike

Mike, I purchased one from Crossman during last years Black Friday sale, had been wanting one for quite some time. Very fun, accurate and there are a plethora of modifications one can do to these platforms! With mine, all I did was add the RAI adapter plus AR stock, got some Woods Walker grips, fore stock and added a Hill depinger. You can tune them down or way up with just a larger transfer port or add a regulator, botttle....lots and lots of options! Nice OEM triggers too. Fun guns for sure. Mine is my small, light, compact and quiet ratting carbine PCP. Another inexpensive one is an Artemis p750 that is easily modded. Both can be made into carbines.

You cant go wrong with a Prod, they are popular for many a reasons. Mine, I have a Hill de-pinger, a Hill 8 inch LDC (you dont have to remove it to fill the gun), a weaver rail on the foregrip with bipod, and I swap between a 3-9x40 or my ATN 4K PRO (for night time pest control). It is way quieter than my HW-30s (a gun many claim is the quietist springer ever) with the LDC on. Even though I have a scuba tank, I hand pump the Prod. Super easy and quick to fill with one.

One of the first air guns I bought, thought it was under powered for squirrels so I changed the TP and HS added a hill 5in ldc and a rei AR stock adapter and viola great pester, used it today to knock off some starlings, since I got it 4 years ago I've added quite a few guns but still love to take it out of the safe regularly to just plink is the quietest air gun I own.

You can hot rod a Prod like crazy with a JSAR balanced valve and some barrel/transfer port work and or Hill stuff or mod it yourself for even more fun. You can Bottle it or even double tube it if you can find a kit, make it all sexy with AR stocks and LDC.

here's mine, the gun itself is stock with a little tune on the hammer spring to get 700 fps, I made a small LDC for it and it sounds like a puff when shot, I added the RAI adapter with an AR stock too.

Love the p-rod, it should be a requirement for any airgunner, at least to own for a while. Mods are easy & you don't have to spend much. Did some basic valve & stem work, ice maker tubing for transfer port & power adjuster to accommodate a different spring. Shoots Crosman domes at 850 fps up to 935 and back down again for about 2 mags or so. At 35 yards, the spread doesn't affect the poi enough to matter. Dime size groups with Crosman barrel.
Change the power adjuster or transfer port and your getting double the shots or more. Highly recommend.

The pp750 is smaller and lighter, and needs a little more TLC out of the box, but it also is a really fun little carbine. I guess it's an age thing but I'm starting to gravitate to these two the most. With a light weight (pistol) red dot, the pp750 is just perfect for 35 yards or so. It's shooting Crosman domes @ 700 fps for 35 plus shots. Regulated so they are really consistant. Either one is a close range winner.

Mine weighs about 5 lbs with a Hawke Vantage 2-7 scope. My stock is home made mostly out of a piece of 7/8 OD aluminum tubing from an old boat cover support. A 5/16 fine thread bolt holds it to the gun and there is a 1/4 inch coarse thread nut on the other end to attach the butt pad. I drilled the transfer port and tried different tunes to balance power and shot count. I am happy with my tune that averages over 700 fps for about 20 shots and peaks at 18 fpe. It shoots through squirrels at 20 yards. So far, at least, a hit anywhere in the vitals and they do not run off. The higher than stock velocity also keeps my POI change down around 1/4 inch from 15-30 yards.

The barrel is wanting cleaned a lot - like about every 25 shots - but when it's clean I get three shot groups where the holes touch each other at 27 yards. I tried 32 yards today and I still had a lot of shots touching each other. For sniping squirrels the cleaning is no big deal but for target shooting it is a hassle. I need to figure out what is up. I may need to clean a little more aggressively at least once to get it to settle down and shoot. When it is dirty, groups open up to about 3/4 inch at ~30 yards. That's all some guns can do but when it's clean my Prod shoots 1/4 inch groups at ~30 yards.

The trigger is really nice and light. I have not messed with it. Refill takes about 25 pumps on my handpump. At a lower tune, you can get 40-50 fairly consistent shots that will kill pests. Mine came tuned for about 640 fps peak at about 1900 psi. It would stay over 600 fps for about 30 shots. All that is required to get more is to turn in the hammer spring some. You can fill to 3000 but unless you turn in the hammer spring and perhaps drill out the transfer port you shouldn't. Velocity will be lower with a higher fill. I measured 551 fps at 3000psi on the stock tune. It didn't drop back down to that level until about 1200 psi 50 shots later. So the total velocity variation over the string is almost 90 fps which could be OK for casual plinking but is too much for me. The tune I use has about 50 fps spread starting at 2700 psi. The lower velocity tune I used to use varied about 40 fps over 20 shots.

Well, it has a 14" LW barrel in .177, gents.

I plan to procure a 17xx breech and .177 LW barrel (1701P or 1720T) for the PROD build on Monday, then have it plated or Cerakoted (just the breech) in silver.

I don't hunt, so a low power AG suits me just fine.

The stainless DC 2260 (Magnum Air Power .038 hammer spring and stainless valve torx screws + Challenger transfer port) is so accurate a squirrel's eye is history at 25 yards or even farther out.

To the OP: Check out the 1720T or even the low power 1701P before truly deciding on a PROD.

LW barrels make a big difference, IMHO.

I only have 2 of the aforesaid barrels, but whether they are on my 2400KT C02 or custom 1377, they are 1-holers out to 25 yards with JSB's in 10.34g.

Hey, Wolfer. Did you have a particular task that you want your pistol candidate to perform? Just wondering. Are you looking for flat-out performance? Others have posted some of the pretty cool things that you can do with a Marauder pistol. I'm biased and I'm definitely no expert, but for the money, I think you'd be hard pressed to find something that could match its versatility (hi/low power, carry options/portability), accessories, mods, suppressed report, and support from Crosman and third parties.
