Marauder Coyote kill????? repost please

hey guys...good to be back, I was trying to read the post the other day about that kill but did not get a chance because of obvious reasons. I would love to hear the story and see some pictures, if you would not mind re-tyiping

Oh well...I love these guns. I did see it was a .25 cal Mrod just couldn't open the post. Chalk another one up for the marauder

There was a guy on the marauder forums who took a deer with a .22 Mrod shooting 21 grain barracudas with a headshot. he posted his kill...then everyone started bashing him for even taking the shot.


I think it is just proof that these airguns are serious tools, and should be treated as such. NOT FOR KIDS!!!!

I spoke to Steve who shot the coyote with a lucky shot to the mid-section/back and got a major artery.  I think he also damaged the spine because it dropped 10ft from where it was shot.  I have known him for a while now on the TAG.  He has his Mrod .25 tuned to shoot (starting) at 50fpe with 31gr Kodiaks and mid-40's with the JSB 25.4gr!  It's one powerful gun, but he doesn't get too many shot at that power level, which is ok with him.  16 decent shots is the most he can get in the "40's" with the JSB's which is not bad.  The Mrod is certainly up there with a Talon with 24" barrel in power (in .22cal), except it's a multi-shot, so for the price I'd go for the Mrod .25.  I would not get rid of my 65, 75 and 90fpe Condors though, but it would be nice if I could add an Mrod .25 to my collection   

A few people BTW have taken deer using Springers (and Disco) with a single shot to the head, but that is not something they advertise publicly too much.  It is illegal in most states to take a deer with an airgun or a small-bore firearm.  A head shot is a head shot.  I don't see shooting a deer in the head any different or more difficult than killing a coyote with a head shot, which has been done on the GTA with as low as a .177 14fpe Springer.  As long as the distance is right and enough power is delivered to penetrate the skull, you can take down ALL the mid-sized and large small-game animals with an air rifle such as coyote, fox, bobcat, beaver, badger, (all documented airgun kills, some many times over) etc., and even big game such as a deer.  Yes adult airguns are definitely not toys, and extreme caution is warrantied when handling them, just like with powder burners.

A friend on the reservation North of us has taken a bull moose with a .17 HMR. One shot through the ear into the brain. Again, not a recommended thing to even try but is is doable. Helps that he can sit on his porch and watch as they come in and out of the lake pretty close.

I have taken a coyote with both a Tech Force 89 and Evaniz Blizzard, both in .22 cal. Both at the optimum shooting range for each rifle and both involved a bit of luck in doing so. Not somthing I generally look for as they are usually way to wary to get that close to.
